Biters — are they really "enemies"?

From wiki: "Enemies (also commonly called biters) are creatures that want to harm the player."
From google: "enemy: a person who is actively opposed or hostile to someone or something."

In Russian, the translation of this word can be represented by at least four variants of different degrees of "aggressiveness", from "an enemy who kills children at night" to "a sports opponent" (or just a boy who took a scoop from another boy in the sandbox).
How does one need to relate to the biters? Are they angry, evil, terrible, disgusting "Arachnids" from the world of "Star Troops" of Robert Heinlein? Or are they simply the indigenous inhabitants of their planet, with all their forces opposing the destruction of their world by aliens (represented by players)?

Are they actively opposed to or hostile to you?

If you don't have peaceful on then yes, they are.

If you have peaceful on and interact with them in any way then yes, they are.

So I guess my vote is yes, they are.

"Вражина" can be good translation it this situation. The word is enough negative, enough aggressive, but without personalisation and has a little bit disdain with sarcasm to enemies.

They do not consider their planet. They do not organise to defend it ( unless you use mods). They are less organised than ants, which would try to kill and eat you and will suceed given enough time or number. ( or just bigger ants some of them are really vicious)

They are inoffensive late game, and sometimes can makes you feel bad after nuke n°100 and 2 hours of active flammethrowing, good thing they have no little cute babies biters.

You can also try new way to kill them, like a sport opponent, they don't get mad it's a game.

I think it's like finding a slug or a spider in your bed, depending on your weapon, you don't care about the slug, you would probably just throw it away, but if it's a spider like one of those that can kill you, you will make sure it's dead or at least far from your house.

Biters attack trespassing strangers and get angry when pollution clouds touch their villages.
In Factorio, the planet is north america, the player is the conqueror and the biters are the indians.

Biters are not the enemy. Trees are.
