I made this thread to share ideas for some hard to translate names. Slavic languages are very similar so sometimes name ideas from the one countries would be good for the other. Like here:

For example I have a problem with the "Basic beacon". The direct translation of this name is awful and very confusing. It's machine not existing in real life so it needs a new name. Any ideas for it? Let's share the matching names from your languages, and we will pick one.

(Cyrillic alphabet is fully allowed, so don't try to transcribe original names)

In Russian it is translated directly — маяк. Latarnia in Polish, right? Majak in Polish have a totally different meaning though.

Latarnia means something entirely different in Polish. It's either lighthouse or street light. It is translated as basic transmitter ("podstawowy transmiter" in Polish) and I find it really good. I'd even say that transmitter is better name than beacon in english.

In Bulgarian I translated it as "Прост излъчвач" - "Simple broadcaster".

OK. There's a second task connected with the beacons: technology "effect transmission".
In Polish "effect" means "result" or "influence". The "Transmision of influences" or "Transmission of results" sounds extremely weird.

That's obvius that this technology requires a new, very clear name.

Do you have simmilar problems with the "effect" word?

I would have translated "effect" as свойство (attribute, characteristic) — "передача свойств" or "распространение свойств".

What do you think about the oil products? I mean light oil, heavy oil and petroleum gas. I checked up many translations and I found so many strange ideas for them.

I used the "LPG", "Nafta" and "Olej" for the different oil fractions.

I don't play on polish version, but I'd use "gaz ziemny", "benzyna"/"nafta" and "olej". They are as chemically accurate as they can be, according to current technological process, and sound quite well for me. Current LPG (liquid petroleum gas) is as good as "gaz ziemny", but I personally like the second option more.

"Gaz ziemny" is a bad idea, because it's natural gas, not petroleum gas. "Gaz ziemny" has no connections with the refinering process.

I had an idea "gazol" for petroleum gas, but it's simply an uncommon name for the LPG.
