Thanks for the report, it is fixed now for the next release (1.1.39).
I didn't realize it was possible to continue in the same direction after pressing the rotate and have it "stashed" until you go out of the original line.
So the change is, that pressing R instanatly locks you in the other direction.

Looks like it's fixed for 1.1.38 already!
