Hello guys.
I have a map started for 0.17. now played over 150h. The map is not very large comapared to my others. But this save file (.zip) is over 500MB. In fact it is so big, I have problems saving and loading this map. First the screen freezes and than it takes around one minute for the saving (/loading) process. This appeared some hours after I switched from version 0.17.58. There was no transition. Before it always saved in two or three seconds.

The area I have discovered is about 150 chunks in radius around the spawn. I have almost build everthing for 10k SPM. I had maps in other versions that are larger and only had 20MB and are working with 2k SPM. I have some minor issues with performance due to my exzessive use of nuclear power (around 15GW). But this is no problem, I plan to switch to solar.

Thank you for taking the time to post the bug report.

Could you share the save file somewhere? (Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, ...)

If it is too large for you to upload, open Settings -> Other and enable "Log saving statistics", save the game and then post new factorio-current.log here.

Then in-game press F4, enable "show-detailed-info" and make a screenshot; then disable it and run command and make another screenshot. (You'll probably get warning about commands disabling achievements, if that happens, run it again and don't save the game after that)

So far it looks as something related to biters. Most of the save file size is taken by unit commanders.

Indeed there is a problem with the biters. If I kil all biters by command the file size drops to 115MB. If I set the world to peaceful afterwards there is no additional loss.

I have also seen a drastic upward spike in save game size, went from being ~20 Mb and fast to save to 80 Mb and drastically slower to save.

After biters are killed and I continue playing, after a while the file size is again rising fast.

I've been seeing similar issues since the last update. The file has increased from 80MB to almost 500MB and it takes a very long time (up to minute). Vanilla

I suppose it's a tradeoff between biters not being able to go around lakes and saves becoming massive.

I tipped the balance back in favour of biters not pathfinding, which should make your saves smaller.

The update did not fix the situation. The file is approaching the size of 1GB

My save is down to 95MB. Looks like it worked for me.

Then you do not have the issue reported here, make dedicated report and include a link to your save please.
