The game crashes on saving. The save produced will then be corrupt but will be saved separately from the original save, meaning it is not overwritten. I have attached both the save I made shortly before the issue appeared and one of the corrupted saves it has produced. The issue can consistently be replicated by playing from the save, waiting for 2 minutes, and then attempting to save. Waiting for the auto save will also cause the crash. So far, I have not been able to find a work around for the crash, so I can't provide any more detail than that as to what is causing it.

It is 95% a bug that we solved for the next release, so it should be fixed in 0.17.57
