After taking a screenshot through steam, all of the basic terrain stopped rendering, but decorations and machines still rendered. This only happens while standing still, while moving all rendering appeared normal. This bug persisted for the duration of Steam's "New Screenshot" notification on its overlay. Using the --force-d3d option fixed this issue. I have an AMD r9 390x graphics card. Screenshot and log attached (log shows a lot of error messages).

I believe this also causes windows to give a "Factorio has crashed" message when the game is closed after it occurs. Perhaps a rendering thread is getting stuck somewhere?

it's like this for me consistently from the start. moving around and terrain renders normally. stand still and everything (including water) is black.

tried changing a bunch of settings and reinstalling but no change.

running 0.17.1 on win10 with AMD radion R2 290 with driver version 19.1.1 (latest recommended/stable driver version)

EDIT: also attached log. also shows a lot of errors.

I'm also running discord which sometimes overlays things will test without

EDIT2: I just shut down discord and disabled steam overlay. also quit a few other programs.
restarted and instantly noticed a difference: I can now see the game's background in the title menu. I couldn't before but didn't know I was missing anything.

loading the game shows terrain now renders normally. the rendering errors have disappeared from the log.

Oh, so I'm not the only one.
Both the start screen is not rendering its background image and the game doesn't render the ground if I'm standing still. If I'm on a belt or walking, everything renders.

I do have an R9-280 from AMD so maybe the problem is with this type of video cards, I don't think people who use NVidia is having this issue.
I'm attaching three images, one of me walking, other of me standing still and one of my title screen. So yeah, hope that gets fixed.

Vega56 user reporting in. Same problem, but this command helped me, thanks.

Disabled steam overlay and works fine now, i have a R7 370 maybe a amd cards problem, try it and raplay please
