linux: large hardware cursor obscures flying text(?)

Post by golfmiketango »

Sorry but this may be a confusing bug report as (a) I probably have the wrong terminology and (b) I can't figure out how to take a screen-shot of the problem, as when I do the cursor is not rendered.

The best example of what I am talking about is when I am trying to select a blueprint from a blueprint book. As I "page" through the blueprints in the book, the name of the blueprint appears as smallish text, on top of the image of the blueprint, hovering where the mouse is. I believe this is called flying text? Not sure though.

The problem is that on my system, the mouse cursor appears over the flying text or whatever it's called and obscures it, making it impossible to read. I use KDE with the largest available (48-point) Breeze plasma cursor theme (Workspace Theme->Cursor Theme in systemsettings5). The problem has been there for as long as I've been playing factorio and followed me from open source radeon to open-source amdgpu xorg drivers. I keep hardware cursor rendering enabled (I believe it's the default on most systems but could be wrong).

I hope it's clear what I'm talking about, and you can repro; if not, let me know and I'll generate a picture by means of digital photography.

Well, the cursor renders above everything else, so it will render above the game's tooltips as well.

For 0.16.37, I've added an option called “Tooltip offset” to Options → Interface. If you increase its value, tooltips will apear further away from the mouse, which should allow you to place them far enough to see them.

That's a real solution that I expect to work completely, thanks!
