[posila][for 0.17][0.16.34] FPS drop in map view zoomed at gun/laser turrets

Singleplayer, no mods, FPS drop happens with only gun or laser turret in view, in map view.

The effect is proportional to number of turrets in view. Flamethrower turrets also affect FPS but very little in comparison. Artillery turrets don't seem to cause FPS drop.

You have to be in map mode for this to happen, zooming in makes it worse, not better, which is odd.

Before this I haven't had performance problems on this PC with Factorio in any OS.

what does GPU-Z show when this happens?

The issue is, with "show turret range" enabled. if you disable that, everything is fine.

I can confirm this.The effect becomes stronger with more turrets visible. I managed to max out my GTX 1060 with an array of 13x13 turrets. Notice how GPU usage is only about 38% when zoomed out at a maximum distance with visible buildings.

I don't have good solution for this in 0.16. It wasn't an issue before because turret ranges were not rendered when zoom-to-world.

But why it becomes less resource intensive if I zoom out a bit?

Because range visualization of each turret coveres less pixels on screen, if you zoom out.

I have the same issue and here it is only while biters are attacking. (doesnt matter if the attack is on screen or somewhere else) (also it starts as soon as biters attack / lazer turrets dont have to be engaged yet)

+ the weirdest thing is it is not consistent.. sometimes i tab out of the game or just load a save and its all fine for 2-3 minutes, then it starts...

Hello, by the same issue do you mean "FPS drops (but not UPS) in map view zoomed at gun/laser turrets" but only while biters are attacking?

yes just fps drop - didnt check for gun turrets only lazers...

This should be greatly improved in 0.17
