It shows that I should be able to connect to the small and medium poles, but can't. It doesn't indicate that I shouldn't be able to connect to them, which is pretty confusing.

Either the reach is not shown correctly, or the distance from the power switch isn't evaluated correctly, kind of like the reach for rails here:

Thanks for the report. It's now fixed for the next version of 0.16.
