[14.17] SendTo (0.0.0.0:34197) failed: The requested address is not valid in its context

I get this a lot when I go to join MP games.

If I retry right after it happens to the same server I get in. Other times I'll get in without this error ever appearing. After 2 days of trying to reliably replicate it I'm posting it and maybe you have an idea what is going on and why.

The only interesting thing in the factorio log is
log excerpt

I see that 0.14.17 is out now. I'll try that tomorrow and see if this error message is gone or still randomly reappears.

Still occurring in 0.14.17.

Think I might have figured it out how to easily replicate it.

Open the multiplayer public game browser.
Select a game.
Go make yourself a sandwich or otherwise do nothing for a few minutes.
Try joining that game.
I get that error listed in my first post.
Then sent back to the multiplayer menu.

If I reopen the public game list, select the server I tried before and then join it fairly quickly then I get in no problem.

Your problem appears to be due to socket timeout.

It could be corrected in the game code, but that would be the game compensating for human foibles. It might help if once you decided on a server, to select the one below it then go back to the one you want before attempting to connect. It also might not, because I don't know if the socket connection that is timing out is between the client and the server browser or the client and the individual server itself.

You seem to be under a false impression. This occasionally happens to me even when I already know what server I'm looking for. My steps to reproduce were merely the most reliable method to force this issue to appear. This issue only started happening after the packet size tweaking they did very recently.

This issue would seem to be somewhat related to 35192.

Hmm...that's really strange.

Though after reading the first response of that other thread it's a bit clearer.

Why is this at pending?
Because the issue and steps how to reproduce to get to this error are known?

Steps to reproduce the issue: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=47586

Thanks for the report. This should be fixed in the next version of 0.15.

Did not expect this to be fixed so soon after my post. Many thanks for solving this annoying error message.
I have tested it in 15.22 and the error did not occur anymore.
