When deacivating "Use items groups" while keeping "Use item subgroups" activated it will remove the tabs as intended, but not sort by subgroups anymore:

I hate switching the tabs so I would really like that to be fixed and work as it should
Maybe you can use the code that is used for the filter selection already.
