Lots of the text is missing from the game.

Platform: x68-64, but 32 bit version has the same issue.
Version: 0.9.4
OS: Linux Ubuntu 13.04

All of the characters are missing on the home screen:

However, not all of the characters are missing on the other screens.

Here's a list of all the attributes of the issue I could find:
  • All characters are missing on the main menu.
  • There are spaces where the characters would be.
  • Not all of the characters are missing on the other screens.
  • The characters missing do not change every time you restart.
  • Gameplay is not affected otherwise.

Hello, thank for the report, could you add some information?

What amount of video memory you have?
Does it happen when you turn low-graphics as well?

I've tried downloading the game again, and the missing text doesn't go away.

I have 1 gig of video mem, and I'm using fglrx. The issue persists with low graphics mode.

New finding: I was wrong, the missing characters do change when you restart, but not every time.

I wanted to state, as in this thread: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=1951

That there is bugfix for missing text glyphs in the newest version of allegro (our graphics library), so we could try to update the library and give you test built so you can say us if it helps.

sounds promising. (Even thought fonts are one of the rare things I am seeing with the intel gpu)

I'd PM you for this, but seems I need to be a member a bit longer for that. I run Arch Linux x64 with Catalyst 13.12 and I'm having the same problem on Factorio 0.9.8.
I'd definitely want to see if the testbuild works, if it hasn't been implemented in already. If it is, well then it isn't doing the trick for me.

Also, just out of curiosity, what does your test/build machine look like? I noticed you statically link your libraries as well, maybe that's the problem?

We don't really have a test / build machine yet. We are building separately on our computers (3 programmers - 3 different versions of OS). I couldn't find a good multi-platform (win, osx, linux) solution to do this ...

I believe this is the correct place for your message.

There had been fix of glyphs caching in the newer version of allegro, so it probably solved this issue.
Let me know if it isn't that case, but until then, I'm moving this to resolved problems and bugs.
