*[0.13.3][Twinsen] First Steps character death error

I saw a couple bug reports on this that didn't get resolved, here is the precise way to reproduce it.
1. Start the First steps campaign, level 2.
2. Follow the tutorial until you get a message to inspect the wooden chest.
3. Don't inspect the wooden chest.
4. Walk north until a biter kills you.
Expected result: You have been defeated...
Actual result:
I think there is something similar in First Steps 3, but I didn't try to figure out the sequence to reproduce it.
