If you place down a tank connected to a pipe and rotate the tank it will still think it is connected (liquid will still flow into the tank).



(found after 12 hours play testing on 0.9.0 )

I've had a tank that didn't seem to want to connect in the the proper location (lower left side), so this might have caused it.
