I've captured a video to save poorly explaining the situation.

I think this is by design. You don't lose any inserters, the amount of items in your inventory stays the same. The only thing that changes is the direction and/or the type of inserter. I think it's a nice feature. This way, I can fix the direction if I made a mistake very quickly, or upgrade my inserters without having to remove the previous ones first.

I think what he wanted to say with this video is why doesn't the inserter work in the first place? But If we wouldn't have to guess it would be easier to help

Hello, save containing this would be the most helpful.

oops, perhaps it wasn't as obvious as i'd hoped xD
What I was trying to highlight was on several areas, some of my inserters randomly stop grabbing, but if I just replace them they carry on as normal for a while.
It seems to be when the belt runs out of an item, the inserter doesn't check if ones available again.
Hence, I replaced in a different direction then in the original direction which then grabbed ok.
Here's the save - I believe I'm stood at the same one in video.

The same happens with the fast inserter at the bottom assembly machine to the left.
also, probably should've put using Version: 0.8.8 Build 8138 win64

Hello, this is the same problem as this one (
https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =30&t=2263), don't worry you posted first
Anyway, the bugfix solves this as well (I checked), so it is solved for 0.9
