Re: We support Ukraine
How about a stupid question? I hope the developers of the game Factorio will not block access to Russian players? And then I recently wanted to buy a game, until the ruble finally depreciated, but the possibility of sanctions against a simple person who cannot influence anything scares me. I alread...

Re: We support Ukraine
Ukraine bombed Donbass for 8 years and after that do you consider Russia an enemy? Russia stood up for Donbass, because Russia is tired of looking at it, looking at how people are suffering. And one interesting fact: Ukraine itself destroys cities with its tanks, while Russian tanks try not to brea...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
I am glad old tutorials come back. I did never like Compilatron neither by design nor by its name. When I first played Factorio I started with tutorials. And I do remember that I was absolutely astonished by the scale of bases you meet during gameplay. The pinacle was the map where you had to repair...

The cyberman vibe is strong with this one. The cyberman vibe is strong with this one Its more general "Doctor Who" theme - first one is Dalek for sure, second is Cybermen and third one from something even more advanced :) I do love the general idea of the mod. However I did absolutely lov...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
The "there are too many things on petroleum gas" point is really dangerous to change - if for example we would put sulfur into heavy oil, it could very easily happen that your refinery would deadlock because you only want to produce batteries/acid, say for mining uranium and laser turrets...

Re: Friday Facts #306 - Experimental Demo
In the old campaign, "A New Hope" level 2 the player discovers a large base that has been decimated by biters. I remember that this was the level that my imagination really kicked into high gear. I think that without that glimpse into the future I might not have had the curiosity to conti...

Re: Friday Facts #306 - Experimental Demo
I have played the new Introduction. Being a pretty old experienced player here are some of my thoughts. I have not played Factorio since interface changed so I will add opinions on that as well. I tried playing like I have never played making simple builds with spaghetti without massive overproducti...

Re: Friday Facts #306 - Experimental Demo
Before I get started, I want to caveat this with the fact that this topic (the new introduction campaign) does deserve discussion, but maybe there were more urgent topics to cover this week? Are we just going to pretend that nothing controversial at all happened in the last 2 weeks? The last time a...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Balanced chemical science pack helps for sure, but it assumes the player is trying to use oil to get into chemical science first, which is not a super reliable assumption. It's likely the player will first try to use explosives/accumulators/other things available under red+green+military+oil Even s...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Sure, having two outputs presents the "multiple outputs can block" early on, while not reducing the amount of things you need to do/worry about almost at all. Basic oil processing can still get stuck and that way it feels unsustainable, and the player just wants to rush advanced oil proce...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
None of them really solved all the issues - complexity, tedium, pacing. Some of them were more interesting than others but always with some flaw. The biggest problem with the chosen solution is that it's likely the players will build straight pipes next to basic oil refining refineries, and get the...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
You can consider adding extra recipe for Sulfur made from PG to AOP. This will kinda revert the complexity of balancing to existing levels, but only with AOP researched. You can make this recipe much less effective compared to HO variant to promote effective solutions but this will remove a possibl...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
So, I tried implementing the Heavy + Petroleum gas BOP. ... Option 2: Sulfur in Chemical science pack, Sulfur made from Heavy - AOP still mandatory for rocket fuel - Solid fuel only used by itself when the player would want to burn it or to boost vehicle speed - the amount of obtainable sulfur woul...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
The second thing that I have been considering recently would be to make BOP output heavy and gas only, no light. The point of “oil processing only feels like a complicated process if it has multiple outputs” is quite valid. This would allow to keep robots before chemical science. The argument of ro...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
At the point of BOP I would suggest making at least 2 products in the refinery and give 2 clear purposes for them. For example make it LO and PG and change Sulfur to be made from LO only. So your max possibe sulfur is limited by plastic consumption? A similar effect can occur with other solutions b...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
This will also clear the way to removing solid fuel from PG recipe completely as one being conceptually flawed. I don't think it's completely flawed. There are uses for it. Especially in a dedicated solid fuel factory. You try to make most out of LO, but you can still turn the PG into SF so it does...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Flare stacks are absolutely out of the question for the ultimate dumbing down reasons, just take FFF-305 version and image a flare stack next to the refinery / the one integrated in the refinery to be burning the heavy and light oil. Flare stack is much better than you solution because: * Result is...
