Re: Do not pause game when looking at research in single player
I totally want the game paused while I'm in the research menu, and if one day there was an ingame blueprint editor, I hope the game will also pause while fiddling in it. Are you sure that you always want it paused without any possible exception ever ? I think that for most people there's times wher...

Re: Do not pause game when looking at research in single player
It's a bit weird that this is even a thing. I'm against it, but can be ok with it if it becomes an option and defaults to the original behavior. Arguably making this sort of option accessible to modding might make sense in the spirit of modding the game if not already there. Pausing the game during...

Re: Use Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller on Mac OS
I don't know much about MacOS, but on Windows there are lots of free controller remapping tools. Steam is only one option.

Re: Inserter stack size gone, after bob's mod (un)install
There are ways to re-enable achievements and I think this is a case that would easily warrant it, if you do end up feeling like learning some hex editing and finding all the commands you need for your save. @OP has used mods, so hex-editing to re-enable steam achievements is pretty straight cheatin...

Re: How to read files on the device?
Factorio mods are sandboxed. Access to any kind of non-game data is not allowed, to keep determinisim across all platforms. You'll have to do it as an external script, not as a mod.

Re: Performace issues on High-End PC
Other programs (e.g. COD warzone) do utilise the full potential offered to them so the fact that this game doesn't is my main concern with Factorio right now. As others have said, there's nothing to be concerned about. Factorio will never "use 100%" of your cpu. There is no indication tha...

Re: Performace issues on High-End PC
The screenshot says that train *pathfinding* alone takes 23ms, that alone would drop you to 43UPS even if everything else stopped. Then entity update is another 14ms. You can get more detailed info about which entity types use how much time by enabling the show-entity-time option (name from memory).

Re: Using the global random number generator inside on_chunk_generated
Just because nobody has explicitly answered @OPs questions: Most of your answers are in the doc. https://lua-api.factorio.com/latest/Libraries.html will this cause desyncs No, math.random is safe. However math.randomseed is a no-op, see the doc above. and is this a bad practice. I'd personally say i...

I would still love this even if it's a link on the wiki page "download json" and can't be packaged with normal releases (update cycles etc).

Re: Would a recipe input of either/or ever work?
Would you mind hard-linking the percentage to a certain machine class? I.e. AM1 can only make 80%, AM3 could only make 95% (not 80%!). That way progression is somewhat natural, gives a good reason to upgrade assemblers (I often don't because old recipes are fast enough), and there's only one recipe ...

Re: Would a recipe input of either/or ever work?
Does anyone think/know if it is (will ever be) possible to have recipes that can use one of n inputs and make something of it? Is right now? See below. Will ever be? Not a crystal ball expert. Sometimes even the devs are wrong about their own "this will never happen" future predictions. A...

Re: Performance optimization - post your saves
Stacking entities on top of each other causes anything that has to interact with that section of the map to grow linearly more expensive As for the case of create_entity: As it doesn't do any apparent collision checking I expected it to not care at all about other entities. I added all the {foo = f...

Re: Performance optimization - post your saves
I know, not at all a gameplay problem, but maybe there's something to be optimized hiding? I did expect the cpu cost of spawning a single entity to be constant. For testing something I used LuaSurface.create_entity to spawn in 3 groups of 5000 solar panels each, so the panels in each group all have ...

Re: Mod Profiles
A common workaround is to select all the mods you want, change all the mod settings the way you like them, then create a new map and immediately save, i.e. as "My Modpack A". Then you can use that savegame to sync mods+settings when you want to play that pack. If you adjust the map setting...

Re: Make "all trees/rocks" into filters for deconstruction planners
By "Undo not supported" you mean cancelling the order or "un-chopping-down" the trees? xD The difficulty of wording that unambiguously is yet another annoyance ;). I put it in "quotes" to emphasise that it means the Undo function. Manually cancelling the order by shift...
