Re: Combinator Contraptions

Simply ( ) build a million >= operators, count each row of the 1024x1024 table, and select the row that scored a perfect 1024. In theory it is possible, in practice maybe parallelization isn't the best answer.

Re: Combinator Contraptions

You would have to explain the exact task you are trying to accomplish in log(n) ticks. But for some tasks, you can use 1024 combinators to sort everything in one tick.

Re: Water is generated last, overwriting essential resources

The ultimate solution will be an algorithm that scans the map for a good start position, and moves the start position or re-rolls the map. Unfortunately it is a low priority.

I recommend Notepad++, its file search is far superior to Windows.

Anyway, the file you're looking for is demo-entities.lua.

Putting the wires on top does look nicer, if you don't mind an extra tile of height. digit-display-8.jpg H4sIAAAAAAAA/91da5OrOM7+K1P5+FaYN+ZioKayf2Rqq4skTpo9BFgg55zerv7va3I1AhzJaSfUzocz1Z22wJL86GJJ2RR/ZMU6yf54W36KvEmbVNTLz888 2YvlLKnS5n0vmnTtrIv9Ks2Tpqhm87Ko5d8V+fLz99Jh4fxD/vtn8DVfF3ku1u0nksTfMzb75/...

Re: Blueprint Events (on_marked)

You can already edit blueprints (and data can be added with constant-combinator), but we need an event to tell you when to edit them.

Re: Digital Display, Yay!

That 2-part divide all is really clever! And the 2-dimensional array lookup is great too. There is no way I can improve the logic, the best I can do is make it look pretty. This blueprint does not require any wiring. The 3x3 loader can be removed when everything is working. digit-display-7.jpg H4sIA...

Re: Accumulator / Solar panel ratio

If you have 1 solar panel powering a base that draws 42 kilowatts, you will begin draining from your accumlators when the solar panel output falls to 42 KW/60 KW = 70% light level. Correct. 166.66 seconds is half and half, 70% of that is 116.66 seconds, and the total "accumulator darkness"...

Try to push yourself to Automated Construction, no matter how ugly your factory gets. Then use construction bots to tear down everything and build your perfect factory.

Don't worry about purple science yet - your first artifacts should be used to craft power armor, fusion reactor, exoskeleton, and energy shield Mk2. You have two options: 1. Mass distractor capsules (at least 100 - start an assembly line) 2. Mass laser turrets (at least 50). You also need a bank of ...

Chemical plants should have 8 directions. North, East, South, West. And then 4 more directions with their input/output pipes mirrored.

This is a tough problem to suggest solutions for, because you need to be good at math AND art. I give you a B for math and a D- for art.

Re: Random Number Generator

Yes, the Lehmer RNG does that. But it also requires a prime number set size. The formula is: x = x * 48271 % 2147483647 Unfortunately, modulo is expensive to implement in combinators. A LCG uses two primes and a set size of 2^32, which gets modulo for free using integer overflow. The formula I used ...
