Automatic factory line power management.
EDIT: I figured it out, post updated with solution. Please feel free to contribute better solutions, I am no expert at combinators and speakers and although I am pretty proud of this simple design, I am certain it can be done better. Goals: - To always notice when the power drops, before it is too l...

Re: Idea on large blueprints - use map view
I think the main issue is that when you are in map view you can't see the things on the map unless you zoom in enough. So, even in map view you can't place properly. The other problem is that when you scroll to zoom in/out the cursor and ghost jump around instead of staying centered on the mouse pos...

Re: Aren't construction bots available too late?
Yeah, I don't think that I knew about that yet when doing the above... But wouldn't it be kind of problematic to do it where you don't have sight ? If you can afford to extend your roboport coverage so that you are building remotely... then you can use a small gadget like this one (derived from Mar...

Re: Storage Chest Logistic Filter: Bug or "Feature"?
It is a feature. As stated above, the filter option only prevents unwanted items from being stored in the chest. If you want the item to be requested you need a requester chest. If it is an intentional feature "as it is today" then it is worse than worthless and should be removed. It give...

Re: 0.16 Map generation Feedback
I finally remembered to post that good 0.16 map I found on a different thread. The map is quite good. Large patches of ore, few but large bodies of water. But... look at those settings!!! Completely counter-intuitive. The Frequency is quite high and yet it produces low frequency results. I've given ...

Re: Vanilla spoon/speed runs for non speed runners
What is TINS? Is it an achievement for a particular mod?
Edit... duuuh... I typed that and realized you probably meant "There Is No Spoon".

Anyway sounds good. How would such an event work?

Re: 0.16 Map generation Feedback
@ alyssa. I think that most of your problems comes from not understanding the interaction of frequency and size. Low frequency means that resource patches tend to be big. low size means that resource patches tend to be frequent. If this was truly the behavior we would not have so much trouble. The ...

Re: The Green Dilemma
I would love to see the game evolve to the point that real green behavior was rewarded:. Play fully green = biters leave you and your base alone.
That kind of gameplay would be golden.

Re: 0.16 Map generation Feedback
I am starting to wonder if the 0.16 frequency implementation might be coded backwards. I recently came across in a post an excellent map generation string (I must remember to put it here when I get home). Big patches, separated, rich enough,. Good amounts of what I need, oil, uranium in two large pat...

Re: 0.16 Best map gen setting for beginners and design tests
Yes, size has a more dramatic effect when you also have very high frequency because lakes are more "shallow" to begin with. This results in many lakes drying out completely when you decrease the water level. Further out lakes get "deeper", so at around pos +-1000 to +-1500 they ...

Re: Is it possible to input balance a single belt's lanes?
Why do you all make it so complicated ? I just use a splitter and merge the two ways into a single belt.... There is no ned for the subway-belts :?: That is the one I was using and didn't quite do the trick: split then merge on both sides of a belt. That design: - Correctly causes a full output bel...

Re: Aren't construction bots available too late?
Have you included "placing rails while driving a car/train" in "Solution 0" ? Good observation. If asked I would (general principle and feel is the same, and it's low tech as well). I think I did not considered it when I said 2 to 3 times slower. I'm personally a very bad driver...

Re: Is it possible to input balance a single belt's lanes?
The input and output balanced lane balancer on the wiki which you surely found on your search does exactly what you want: https://giant.gfycat.com/NervousEnergeticGalapagostortoise.webm I use it both on exit from the smelters and on each line that branches off the bus, and it isbetter than nothing,...

Is it possible to input balance a single belt's lanes?
Traditional single-belt lane balancers may fill the output side equally but don't draw exactly the same amount from the I put side. Googling for "input balanced" single belt balancer designs did not yield any designs that achieve what I described. (Plus, since these could be needed on ever...

Re: The Green Dilemma
@4xel: accumulators aren't future tech. It is already cheaper for power companies to build energy storage facilities to accumulate power during the off times and use during the peak hours than it is to build new power plants. Just like new solar and wind power plants are already more cost effective ...

Vanilla spoon/speed runs for non speed runners
Are there any vanilla servers that routinely do speed runs? Rather than being a fast moving fast this thinking player I am a methodical player, so I never expect to successfully beat Spooon or No time for chitchat alone. Heck, I even failed twice at On track like a pro, which is supposed to be easy ...

Re: Nuclear Power - Reactors cooling on their own
I would suggest going to factorioprints.com, set the filter to "Most Favorited", then enter "Nuclear" in the search box. You will get the most popular nuclear designs. Test implement them, and study them. That should give you great ideas about how to design your own in an effecti...

Re: Prod3 in mid/late-game science-pack production?
Your logic makes sense. Still, in my case I didn't even think about it, mainly because my science research always outpaced my other progress and I rarely feel resource-constrained. I will probably consider it now. EDIT: Having read the responses below... I now seriously doubt I'll use any level 2/3 ...
