... i installed the Raven mod, which gives you a pretty nice aircraft. Now I can spend my time building airports all over the world. If there were ships you could also build industrial ports or ferry networks.

Yeah, thats why i wouldn't use the mod. Its outright OP to use moats as defensive structures without said changes to critters.
To be honest, what im really interessted in is transportation via cargo ships, which would require channels. Would be so awesome!

... it reminds me of the feature in the homeworld games where you could have a smart select, that when you did a lasso, would only select millitary ships. If you unchecked smart select, you could lump non combat ships (the harvesters primarily) with them together.

Another idea is the bridges are really small power poles, or the pole bridges drop a bridge an a power pole

I think either power poles are integrated into all bridges, or none - because otherwise you would end up with too many permutations on the other hand if you had two parralel railway bridges, one in each direction, you wouldn't want both to carry power poles So I'm not sure really Maybe a new kind of...

Here's what I think about having bridges: With the new landfill, it might be easier to make bridges work. They would be like buildings, but you can walk and drive vehicles over them.
