Change how underground pipes work

Current behavior: an underground pipe set is crafted from 5 iron plates and 10 iron pipes and can span a gap between exits from 0 to 9 tiles. Suggestion: What if the iron pipes were not needed in the craft, and you just crafted 2 underground pipe exits from 5 iron plates, and when you placed the exi...

When did landfill get changed to ugly brown?

The last time I played Factorio, I remember creating large swatches of beautiful green grass with my landfill. :) Load up the latest .18 to start again and it's this ugly brown dirt packed stuff. How do I get the grass back?

Re: Development and Discussion

But what I did is took my coal line and converted it to carbon. I am converting 6 coal/s to 18 carbon/s. More than a yellow belt. Looks efficient. Plus, carbon has one extra MJ. The thing you need to keep in mind is that this conversion process may consume more energy than it adds to the fuel. You ...

Re: 1-to-N sorting of ores: Is there any hope?

1-to-N sorting seems to be intended to acquire enough resources to research the necessary technologies for catalyzed direct production of needed ores.

Basically, seemingly intended inefficiencies at the start, with the reward of efficient production later on.

  • if the selected save is saved in a newer version than what you are about to save
  • if the selected save has more playtime on it than what you are about to save
What about "if the selected save has a different map seed / exchange string than what you are about to save" ?

There are many reasons for the current behavior. Typically you are expected to save over your previous save to avoid file cluttering.
That's like expecting a camera to always overwrite the last photo taken since "who needs all those photos anyway amirite?"

Very nice. Should help reduce the lag when nuking large numbers of biters.

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction

Not a fan. The new green circuits almost look yellow, rather than green.

Yet another unnecessary change in a sea of them. Any way to give an option to use the original style, rather than the ~new and improved~ (lol)? Not everything needs to be changed, perhaps in fear of getting left behind.

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

V453000, why do you keep doubling down on these stupid, unnecessary changes? Throw out all the oil and tech tree changes you've proposed so far and instead take a look at more uses for heavy and light oil. Like the others said, oil boilers, oil fed trains, diesel powered generators, etc etc. Increme...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

At this point, I'm honestly wondering if the devs have been mind controlled by an evil genius. I can only hope the devs will break free of this mind malady and realize what's best for the game. (hint hint: tutorials, polish and release, not sweeping last minute changes)

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Also, Wube is attacking the symptoms and not the actual problem. I took a read through the 304 thread and found this post by Yandersen which nicely encapsulates the real problem. Argh, no, I can't just quit slamming the door with angry face seeing devs stuffing customers' opinions down their asses w...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

1. propose a controversial half baked change 2. get furious feedback 3. propose a controversial half baked change with an cherry on top And the cherry is unripe too. I agree with the whole sentiment. Wube, this change is a bad idea inherently. Doubling down on it (making players need to belt sulfur...

1. keep multi-output recipes (and hopefully teach them as early as possible)
This, and add it to the tutorial.

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

You're foolishly trying to change the game to satisfy people who don't want to play this kind of game but as long as you don't retroactively break Factorio 0.16 I'm happy. Hit the nail on the head there. That's pretty much exactly what these recent change posts are. Edit: Wube. I have a question fo...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

There is another alternative that I haven't seen discussed yet: putting the oil changes in a difficulty setting. When a world is created, have {simplified} and {normal} difficulties for oil processing. The existing oil mechanics would go in {normal}, and the proposed changes in {simplified}. The oil...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

My primary concern is that the devs appear to be dumbing down the game to appeal to the lowest common denominator, instead of creating a more intelligent solution (better tutorials, UI hints, etc). Why change basic oil processing? Why not instead add 3 new specific oil processing recipes that produc...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

If the heavy/light oil build-up of the original basic oil processing is such an issue for people then it would have been a lot easier if you just would have added a flare stack and called it a day instead of having to touch everything else that has already been working. But at this point it really ...

Re: Version 0.17.59

My biggest problem is that they introduce it so late in the v0.17 cycle. It will destroy every factory currently in existence. Everyone's oil setup has to radically change (right, or did I misunderstand?) I don't know what is the current plan for those changes. But as I understand the original prop...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

1) Every game item must have a "pollution cost" - a new special value property that show how much pollution got released ... 2) Since any recipe turns one set of items into another, it can be seen as "input products got destroyed, output product(s) get created". ... 3)... Once e...
