Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

You're foolishly trying to change the game to satisfy people who don't want to play this kind of game but as long as you don't retroactively break Factorio 0.16 I'm happy. Hit the nail on the head there. That's pretty much exactly what these recent change posts are. Edit: Wube. I have a question fo...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

There is another alternative that I haven't seen discussed yet: putting the oil changes in a difficulty setting. When a world is created, have {simplified} and {normal} difficulties for oil processing. The existing oil mechanics would go in {normal}, and the proposed changes in {simplified}. The oil...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

My primary concern is that the devs appear to be dumbing down the game to appeal to the lowest common denominator, instead of creating a more intelligent solution (better tutorials, UI hints, etc). Why change basic oil processing? Why not instead add 3 new specific oil processing recipes that produc...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

If the heavy/light oil build-up of the original basic oil processing is such an issue for people then it would have been a lot easier if you just would have added a flare stack and called it a day instead of having to touch everything else that has already been working. But at this point it really ...

Re: Version 0.17.59

My biggest problem is that they introduce it so late in the v0.17 cycle. It will destroy every factory currently in existence. Everyone's oil setup has to radically change (right, or did I misunderstand?) I don't know what is the current plan for those changes. But as I understand the original prop...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

1) Every game item must have a "pollution cost" - a new special value property that show how much pollution got released ... 2) Since any recipe turns one set of items into another, it can be seen as "input products got destroyed, output product(s) get created". ... 3)... Once e...

So, before I allow Steam to update I would like to have this clear.
The oil change is NOT in this version, right?
I'm hoping it was just a thought experiment to see how players reacted and nothing that was ever seriously being considered.

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

We got the awesome (and optional) Rail-Building tutorials-- why not make an equally awesome (and equally optional) Refineries Tutorial instead? Changing the inputs/outputs like this feels really heavy-handed and short-sighted. I do not support these proposed changes! Agreed. Does vanilla really nee...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

I hope that you agree! Interesting idea, but it doesn't seem to solve the real problem. The issue is new players dealing with the fact that buildings stop when any one output is blocked. In my opinion delaying this lesson is a bad idea as the lesson will still have to be taught eventually and the s...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

On the oil change: The refinery now looks weird with new basic processing, it looks impractically big. It would be better to have 2 refineries: a basic one and advanced one. The former should be small and it should have a flare stack, while an advanced one shouldn't have a flare stack, but otherwis...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

I don't like the oil recipe change. It adds a good difficulty and usage of logic. Please, don't do the recipe change! Agreed. I also strongly dislike the flamethrower fuel change. Basic oil processing needed a change but I am not sure this one was best. I am sure that adding a flare stack with a pr...

Please, please, please keep this tooltip for the new GUI. It's useful info.

Also, please add an option to swap between the new dark inventory background and the old light inventory background.

Iron ore should smelt to Iron ingots, etc.

I've always thought it a bit odd that iron ore smelts directly to iron plates, iron plates smelt directly to steel plates, iron plates craft into iron gears, etc. I propose a restructuring to this. Iron Ore should smelt to Iron Ingots. Copper ore should smelt to Copper Ingots, which are then extrude...

Re: [0.17.12] Crash while saving when assembler holds multiple non-stackable items

Thanks for the report. I've fixed it for the next version of 0.17: that recipe should never be able to produce > 1 count of things which the game never allows > 1 count for. In the next version of 0.17 it will error on startup that the recipe is invalid instead of causing corruption/crashes later. ...

Re: [0.17] Remove military science from power armor Mk2 and portable fusion reactor research

Agreed, I see no good reason for power armor mk2 and reactor to be locked behind military science. A fairly common mid/lategame loadout for me is 4 reactors, 2 exos, 4 mk2 roboports and 2 mk2 batteries.

[0.17.4] Need option to disable Interaction error messages and error sound

TL;DR An option is needed to disable the Interaction error messages and the error sound. What ? [0.17.4] No option to disable interaction error messages and/or error sound

I am reporting this as a bug since I think the developers forgot to add the option to disable the interaction error messages. This applies to both the actual error message and the "Beep boop sound error". First, please see this reddit post for an example of the annoyances I'm talking abou...

Re: Rotate Active Quickbar Backwards

+1. I still have the active quickbars at 2 because more would frequently require double/triple-tapping the swap quickbar key to get back to the one I use the most.
