Re: Defensive turret line order, what turret is best up front?

OT: are there any threads discussing linear defense alternatives? I could not find any (geometric art doesn't count). I just saw yet another laser wall, but I think it is less effective unless you use 2+ rows of lasers. Idk but i've seen people use walls like dragons teeth and put belts into the de...

Re: Defensive turret line order, what turret is best up front?

Still I would recommend to build a wall. Behemoth spitters could theoretically snipe the wall out of the turrets reach to make the way free for the biters - but I've never seen that. They normally move into the turrets range and start to shoot at the turrets (Which at this point can shoot back and ...

Re: Defensive turret line order, what turret is best up front?

I guess it depends on the resources you have and what science you have available, but in general I wouldn't mix different turrets in a defence. Strongest defence in late game is the gun turret with green ammo, so don't waste too much energy on laser science, instead concentrate on gun turret and am...

Re: Defensive turret line order, what turret is best up front?

My personal defense consists out of Flamer turrets in front, covered by gun turrets behind them. I only use laser turrets in corners where I can't resupply the other two types. I really don't see any need in more firepower anyway as basically nothing can breach these two lines of turrets. I put the ...

Re: Bots versus Belts

Indeed, but in that case, given enough time, the wagons emptying on these belts where draw is uneven will will take more time to empty, which will in turn lower the throughput on the other lanes (because one can't have 3 wagons leave the stations as soon as they are empty, leaving the remaining wag...

Re: How to deal with all these biters?

A spidertron is a good choice - I have equipped mine with two fusion reactors, one exosceleton and the rest tier 2 shields. Meanwhile my personal powerarmor is equipped with four fusion reactors, the rest are laser defenses. If I'm sitting in the spidertron with that setup I just need to circle aro...

Re: Bots versus Belts

Yes - if you ensure your production lines will produce already balanced output, you don't need to put a balancer afterwards. Producing evenly is only half of the solution : one still must draw evenly from both lines of a belt. You're right - in my case I ensure it by unloading the ore from a 8-car ...

Re: Bots versus Belts

Ah, well, there are many ways to balance without splitters I think Yes - if you ensure your production lines will produce already balanced output, you don't need to put a balancer afterwards. For my new copper smeltery I plan to produce 48 blue belts full of copper plates - without using any balanc...

Re: Trying to make a circuit event based on a changing rail signal

You need to combine a clock with a reset condition. Here's a short mockup which you could adapt: 0eNrFmF2PojAUhv9LbxcnFPnSZDeZceZ6k73czYQgVG0ChZRi1hj++7agoHyMHHRnboy17evxPOe8h3hE6ygnKadMoOUR0SBhGVr+OaKMbpkfqc/EISVoiaggMdIQ82O14j6NUKEhykLyFy1x8a4hwgQVlFT3y8XBY3m8JlweqG9mQt7d7sSslNBQmmTyVsLUV0ml2dyQZw...

Re: Bots versus Belts

At what kind of factory size UPS gets a problem with belts? I've built a belt-based mega-factory with 1000 SPM, and I have no issues with UPS. And some of the parts look really great - my electronics sub-factory for example is real eye-candy with all those colorful belts filled with those different ...

Re: train stackers not recognized by trains

What do you mean with "skipping the destination"? Do trains don't drive towards their target destination where they should load/unload at all? If the trains skip the stations completely: Are these stations actually active, or are they disabled? Are there other stations with the same name s...

Re: enable stations of same name in sequence

Made this in editor mode with an ore source and ore dump attached for testing. The bottleneck is the path from the stacker to the stations, since all trains have to take that one. I do not think it is possible to fully use the 5 exchanges in this setup. Yes, the yellow section which has to be share...

Re: enable stations of same name in sequence

I will look at it tonight. I am spotting a problem in your description above . Using activate on minimum and enabling one station at a time will restrict your throughput too much. If you want to enable one station only based on amount of product, you are in for a few combinator contraptions. (like ...

Re: Reverting (Refined) Hazard Concrete

mining.result could just be changed to the non hazard type. You mean if you mislaid the hazard concrete you'll need to produce a new batch as you can't just put it back where it belongs? That could cause a lot of confusio and annoyance, especially as this would be the only item which acts this way.

Re: multiple stations same name _ make trains to go all stations

You can use some "circuit magic" to steer trains to all your unloading stations. Here is a design from me which I already have posted, distributing trains over several unloading stations with the same name: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=194&t=85193 You might be able to us...

Re: My first factory, tackling flow optimizing

I don't really understand the purpose of this design - as such it just locks a lot of ressources in an endless loop which won't be consumed until taken out manually. And sooner or later any buffer will fill up if nothing is taken out. That's actually the problem with Sushi-belts - unless controlled ...

OK, a very "stupid" question: Did you actually build 48 smelters in a row and not accidently 49?

Re: Stupid simple Kovarex node.....

The green inserters are faster than the yellow one. So the yellow one takes one U-235 from 41, the stack inserters take 24 U-235 at the same time. They are back in position before the yellow inserter, so three of them pick up the remaining 16 U-235 and one the U-238. Once the yellow inserter is in p...
