Re: Connection of circuit network over distances.

I think the logistics channel should be read-only. This way you are always guaranteed to have the number of items in the storage+providers from that "L" channel. If you need to send data just create a new channel.

Re: Control the amount robots

He wants to be able to restock the lost robots due to destruction. Imagine you have an enemy attack incoming. The robots go out there and fix the walls. You had 100 construction robots in the network. The robots go and repair the wall, but 4 robots were destroyed. Now you have 96 robots in the netw...

Re: Friday Facts #88 - Combinators

A few points. 1. Somebody here said something about red/green wires being bad for color-blind people. Which I agree with. However, I don't think that a global change from red/green is a good idea, and adding a core way to change wire color might be a lot of work. So, I would like to bring this prob...

Re: Community Made modding API

A expanded modding api by changing the executable would fall under distributing a hacked client, which is not allowed in the ToS. Something like DFHack (an external application hooking in like a debugger and changing memory values) would be allowed I think. Honestly just keep finding things to impro...

Re: Friday Facts #88 - Combinators

Or you could just do this: full-adder.jpg You then need to pull out the units and the twos to get the result. Or just cross the wires (all outputs are summed) However I think that it's best to not go bitwise with arithmetic and instead treat each signal as a 32-bit integral signal (if that is indee...

Re: Friday Facts #88 - Combinators

So the logical next thing to avoid laying that many cables from an outpost to the center is - wireless connections - automatic cabling for that long distances or - hidden connection within the railway... If you have a mining outpost, chances are you're powering it from your base (I always do, it's ...

There is a stray underground pipe in your iron line not connected to anything above ground. Right under the left green circuit assembler under the refineries.

Turing completeness

I believe that the current belt system+red and green wire logic is enough to achieve turing complete computation. All you really need is to know that the Tag System is turing complete and implement it in factorio. The Tag System means you have a FIFO queue and you take m tokens of the front and then...

Re: Optimal Train Load/Unload design?

Inserters put items in the train 5 at a time depending on how many stack bonus upgrades you have, while they can only pull things off a belt 1 at a time. This means that per inserter putting into the train you need 5 putting pulling it off the belt. You can do with a chest-inserter-chest daisy chain...
