Re: Friday Facts #399 - Trash to Treasure

Hrrm, devoid of "Risk", I wonder if this is a lack of the Devs telling us who the natives are or if going to the final planet causes Space Biters to appear on the other 3 Planets and Nauvis, so you suddenly have to defend all locations (better prepare your tower defense early!). Biter Mete...

Re: Friday Facts #399 - Trash to Treasure

This makes Fulgora another great option as your first stop after Nauvis. Which will you choose? Yeah nah, I pick Door #3, either it's the best of all options or it's the least taken route, therefore its a win win no matter what! The Ancient Aliens Desert Planet will be my second Planet to go for th...

Re: Friday Facts #398 - Fulgora

I now want a new personal equipment grid item that allows me to reach into the sky and grab a lightning bolt to recharge my batteries. What about a weapon that would throw a kite ? how thick of a cable to harness that power ? how big the kite needs be based on the winds ? that's some serious engine...

Have you heard of Dwarf Fortress, my friend ? I have, but I am always somewhat reluctant to try it, seems like a very steep learning curve, especially considering the ascii graphics. I have played the offspring, rimworld though, was also good fun. One day I will muster up the strength to play dwarf...

Re: Friday Facts #398 - Fulgora

I also do not trust random people on the internet, be them teacher in combinators or mod expert, i did my own meta-research, about researchs other people made with real lightning bolt. I thought maybe you were comparing two different quantity, one being the energy of the bolt, the other, the electr...

Re: Friday Facts #398 - Fulgora

Did you ask ChatGPT about that? Never trust AI! Always verify results. Ahem that knowledge was from before AI language models even existed so I highly doubt that. :P The reference for this was some science youtube channel that explained why we do not harvest energy from lightning strikes, and it wa...

Wikipedia suggests 7GJ for a lightning strike, though capturing all of it could be tricky.
Don't forget most of those gigajoules are wasted on the heating up of the air to plasma all the way down to the ground ;)

Re: Friday Facts #398 - Fulgora

It's funny if they really do add a Lightning Rod as a power source because a single Lightning Strike on Earth has only enough total power to run a Lightbulb for a Day and that is it. That is what high Volts and low Amps gets you, after all Humans have proven to be able to survive a Lightning Strike ...

Re: Friday Facts #393 - Putting things on top of other things

You know that yellow and Orange are different colors. Faster belt tier it should be orange The problem there is the same as using the current Olive color, as Yellow and Red are so close to Orange that its hard to tell the difference, and if you make it a glowing Orange you suddenly get Art Style Is...

Re: Friday Facts #393 - Putting things on top of other things

Wasn't is always said that Quality is optional? But now the game is balanced around it and assumes you will have a lot of production that needs much higher belt throughput. I know there are other things like the new miners, but it seems like it's just assumed that you use Quality items when availab...

I just noticed the most important thing that is very relevant to this! All the Forum Ranks need to be updated once 2.0 is out, since they are Inserter based XD

Re: Friday Facts #393 - Putting things on top of other things

I just remembered a previous FFF about Underground Belts not being distinguishable in blueprints, and this new olive color of the highest Tier Belts is insanely close to the yellow of first Tier Belts to the point that even with normal 100% color vision it can be difficult to distinguish those two c...

I'm curious why you didn't just set blacklist to be the default instead of adding a new UI element.
I think it is because blacklist filter also means it waits for you to set the filter, just like the filter inserters did before.

Re: Landmines, the underestimated weapon against Biters

First game I ever played, I had 2 outposts which were getting half-destroyed a few times. For some reason (not sure what it was) I couldn't get enough oil for the flamethrowers, and my red ammo wasn't enough. Red Ammo is an outright scam when it comes to Defense. You can literally just build 3 time...

Re: Landmines, the underestimated weapon against Biters

What if I told you, I used Landmine Gridlock to place down a single Landmine and then blueprinted it, so I don't need a Mod anymore? XD That way I have the freedom of just putting Landmines wherever, while at my Base I can just whip out the Blueprint to be precise. Best of both Worlds, while also be...

Re: Landmines, the underestimated weapon against Biters

I find the checkerboard pattern easier to work with, especially on corners. Yep, checkerboard is still better than just filling in all the squares, it is all about minimizing Spitter collateral damage when replenishing Landmines via Robots. ^^ There certainly are better patterns than the screenshot...

Landmines, the underestimated weapon against Biters

So, recently I figured I should start using means of War that are less standard and boring. I learned many people do not use Landmines at all, so that seemed pretty "exotic" to me, making me want to try use some good old War Crimes against them Buggers. I started looking up Landmines and r...
