Re: A couple of complaints about the Tank

The tank is strong while there are no big biters/spitters/worms. The tank is usefull after the early game, once you have a decent factory factorizing things and you want to do some large-scale territory clearing/expansion. Players with some experience playing in default mode can reach the tank and f...

Re: Shotgun is embarrassingly bad right now

As far as I can tell, the shotgun and upgrades are not meant to be good in the long run. Its a weapon you get early, abuse it as long as you can and then ditch it once you get better options. The main strength of the shotgun is it's extremely good damage/resource ratio (provided all pellets hit). So...

Re: turret rework

I don't mind it being solvable. It should be. I just thought maybe one could make the solution more interesting. I'm playing around with the modding stuff currently. Did the adjustions to the existing turrets and gave robots fire immunity, but I have yet to properly test it. Funnily enough, once I s...

Re: turret rework

Well, my original motivation for writing this post was, that I played deathworld marathon to the point where I basically "won" the arms/evolution race and where just idly shooting rockets into space/expanding my territory. My strategy was gun turrets early, with minimal upgrades, barely ev...

Re: turret rework

Actually when big and behemoth spitters start kicking in in high numbers, gun turrets alone really suffer from their limited range. Pairing each gun turret with a flamethrower turret really makes the difference in my experience. The fire aoe just soaks through all the spitters while gun turrets can...

Re: Biter AI pathing makes game too easy.

There is no reason why those creatures should have an innate sense of strategy. They may act instinctly, and their instinct can't have prepared them for you, an unpredictable external element to their environment that popped out of nowhere. From what I know, most animals instinctively make use of t...

Re: turret rework

Huh. You're right. I never did the numbers on gun turret vs laser turret. I still think that gun turrets are ill-suited to the late-game, due to their low health and range and I still think that my points above are worth considering. But thank you for pointing this out to me. PS: Added a bit of text...

Re: Biter AI pathing makes game too easy.

I understand why you want smarter biters, but I'm not sure this would be fun. A very smart biters swarm could target strategic electric poles or intentionally block trains to destroy them, which can make the game very frustrating. This is not the kind of difficulty the game want to offer. I think t...

turret rework

Note: Since I've changed my opinion quite a bit, I've decided to update my suggestion. The original post is further below. Gun turret: Gun turrets have good damage, when kept up-to-date with upgrades and ammunition, but they suffer from their low health and range. A small increase to the range (to ...

Re: 0.17 Laser turret shooting speed

This is wrong on so many levels. As far as I can tell, your arguments are good. But I still stand by mine and I could elaborate upon it, to which you could most likely also respond, at which point 5 other people could easily join the discussion with equally good arguments. Should be fun but we shou...

Re: 0.17 Laser turret shooting speed

Well, if you really want to get technical, then "laser" turrets don't really make sense or at least are so hard to make sense of, that any debate about their realisticity is doomed to fail. As a few examples: -Lasers dilute the further they go, making them much less effective on long range...

Re: The new (enemy) graphics look sterile

what makes you think that gravity is anywhere near earth like? 1: If not specifically said otherwise, generic gravity is earth-like (basic assumption in any work of fiction). 2: If gravity were drastically different, all machines would need to be redesigned (and on very low gravity you wouldn't nee...

Re: The new (enemy) graphics look sterile

My main problem lies with the biters (the actual "biters", the melee dudes). More precisely, their mosquito-like long, thin legs. Biters are big and fat. Even the smallest ones are bigger than the player. The "long, thin leg" patent which is typical for many insects (insects are ...

Re: Lategame mining options are lacking

Well yea. Everything requires you to be there to construct or deconstruct, unless you use robots. Why do you consider mines a special case worth mentioning? Your factory is built for the ages, you only need to tear (parts of) it down, when you realize that you cannot expand otherwise. Almost every ...

Advanced robots

A few ideas on what one could do in the direction of advanced robots: -Blueprint handling: Being unable to drop blueprints outside of "direct vision area" is kind of a pain, especially for larger blueprints. At the least, when dropping a blueprint, the full blueprint should get printed, in...

Re: Lategame mining options are lacking

I think the main issues for late-ish game mining operations are: -Inability to create custom blueprints from "within" the game, meaning that you cannot make big mining blueprints that will reliably cover the whole deposit. Basically every deposit requires your personal attention to fit you...

Re: Peace with Aliens

Um, no. I would probably do it. My moral issues about biter-genocide aren't particularly notable. But I had the impression that lots of the people who favor the "peace with biters" thing where honest about the "peace" part, so I figured it would be a good idea to point out it's a...

Re: Peace with Aliens

The main problem with the "peace with aliens" path is that you still are playing factorio. You want to build a factory, the bigger the better. So you need to expand a lot. So you are taking a lot of space away from the biters. Most species don't just walk off their home turf and walk into ...

Re: Did no one else notice massive nerf of tank in 0.17?

I'm aware of those points. I generally dislike using construction robots for in-combat repairs, because they are pretty vulnerable, just by being outside the tank (and if you constantly take damage they will be constantly outside, regardless of how slow you are). Compared to the energy shield's rech...

Re: Enemies +

What I´d like to see is biter attacks being more coordinated. I see it time and time again, a seemingly huge colonn of biters marching towards my base and I think my defenses are done for, but then the whole colonn stops and the biters line up to attack one-by-one giving me an easy victory. I don´t ...
