Re: High throughput T junction in action

It's pretty! As the train junction optimization threads pop up every so often, maybe it's time we make a challenge out of it! 8-) - Specify the base layout, e.g. a T-junction with left/right/bottom ports - Have a number of i,j,k trains with: - - a start train stop just for every train - - a FIXED de...

Re: Friday Facts #324 - Sound design, Animated trees, Optimizations

I gave 18 + 18 bits for X and Y. I agree, that can be not enough, that's just an example. 16 bytes may be still good achievement. State bits unpacking shouldn’t be a problem, register bit masking and shifting are superfast operations. There's always a way to trade off between CPU cycles and memory ...

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction

I like the idea of depicting the planet and its nature in brighter, more vivid colours. But as for the factory, I prefer a darker, dirtier more grungy look. Let's be honest: the factory damages the planet and its nature, it causes dirt and pollution. For me, that doesn't go with bright, vibrant col...

@dee- I recently discovered https://factorioprints.com/ and would like to ask you if you would be interested in posting (a modified version of) this book there. If you do, can you provide a link to the created page? My blueprints are probably pretty outdated because of the game elements improved an...

Re: Friday Facts #312 - Fluid mixing saga & Landfill terrain

Should've just literally mix the fluids in the pipe. Structures that consume fluids would be consuming all fluids in the pipe but only using what's useful at the input. If all fluids are consumed at the same rate then more involved mixing management than "just let it drain the useless ones&quo...

Re: Friday Facts #310 - Glowing Heat pipes

While it's pretty it somehow shows how much heat is dissipated without being userful as the heat pipe's thermal insulation is missing. Let's try this: Factorio heatpipes are enclosed in a vacuum chamber made of transparent aluminum, they thus lose no heat. This chamber is coated with transparent na...

Re: Friday Facts #306 - Experimental Demo

Somehow I think maybe it's better to just re-implement the tutorial scenario than to try to fix it piece by piece. Sometimes a fresh start with increased knowledge and a fresh approach is better than trying to fix something skewed. I think repairing and later upgrading a derelict base the player fin...

Re: Friday Facts #303 - Under 100 bugs (but still not stable)

Bought the game way ago directly from you, the devs. Best decision ever: - portable binaries - no Steam cruft - maximum amount of $$$ went to the devs without middlemen - could give some close friends an older version of the game on an USB-Stick missing now essential parts (Nukular Power, even Combi...

79 and 41 are sexy primes.
You're welcome
Yeah, but it's 079 and 041, sooo octal?
I'd be interested to know how you can have a '9' digit in octal :)

Re: [kovarex] [0.17.32] Cargo wagon won't open after curve (only pointing North)

Yes, it is only a visual thing that has nothing to do with functionality. We basically have only the opening/closing animations for horizontal and vertical directions to save vram. I just changed, that instead of checking (for example) orientation == 0 or orientation == 0.5, I check that orentation...

Re: Friday Facts #292 - Inching closer to stable

One thing that makes our progress hard to evaluate is that we don't know how many people are actually playing experimental. Most people play through Steam, and so far we have found no way of determining how many people are opted-in to the 0.17 experimental through Steam. It could be that the game i...
