Please keep the research queue, with the preferred form of being a “thread” or “path”, autoselecting the required research to reach the target picked by the player.
Please make infinite research items autostep to the next level ...

Another suggestion:
Infinite research should be truly infinite, I believe. This meaning that if I have selected an infinite item, it should keep researching it without me selecting it again, even after reaching another level, until I select something else.
