Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
We're not talking about thousands of an inch variances here, we're talking about significant advantages over lower quality items. If you want a car to run at 100 mph and it can only run at 90mph because of substandard manufacturing, that is a failure. Particularly if what you paid for was a car tha...

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
These items are made many times, and I am willing to bet that if you input 100% legendary items into a machine with 4x Q3 modules, the chances of a legendary Power Armor MK2 would be 100% (The missing line in the picture) Do you think this is the case? The original post stated "an important pa...

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
OK then let's look at some data the_legend_of_gear_1236784618.png Looking at the chart, it would seem that one Q3 module adds 2.5% You can estimate the missing bottom line by noticing the chances increment by a factor of 10. So does that mean having 100% uncommon input items increases the same level...

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
Some have expressed their dislike of introducing RNG features into Factorio. But how random does it have to be really? I am no expert on statistics, but I know that casinos are able to precisely predict how much money they will make in relation to winnings payouts because of the way an average becom...

... or one of many possible mishaps that even the most skilled couldn't avoid. While hammering a nail into the wall to hang a picture, the engineer hit his thumb, whereupon the hammer fell into the control console of his spaceship and initiated an unscheduled landing. Because of his injured thumb, ...

Re: Recommendations Needed: Gaming Monitor Specs for an Optimal Factorio Experience
Here is a good 1080p monitor with all the things you might need: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Gaming-1080P-Monitor-VG277Q1A/dp/B09GP7NVHK/=8-3&th=1 This is a 27" screen so it will be much nicer to look at than smaller screens. It's true, 165Hz and 144Hz are faster than Factorio, but this is ...

Re: Thank you (Make the dev-team happy today!)
Considering the cost of Factorio when I bought it at $30 was around the same price for a nice steak dinner, ultimately resulting in a $30 turd. I have had hours upon hours of entertainment playing this game. A remarkable value! Thank you!

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
Lol you guys sure have a lot to say about quality when it's an optional mechanic. Do you think it will not be fun to use? Comparing to advanced real-world manufacturing statistics seems extreme. There is no real-world comparison for transmitting "speed" to machines using radio waves, but e...

Re: The Most Obvious Imbalance I've Ever Seen After 4K Hours
To me the most imbalance comes from various issues with trains. The biggest one in my opinion is the pulling power of a locomotive. In real life, a single locomotive can pull hundreds of cars at a reasonable speed. Factorios trains would need some 20 times more pulling power to match this. Also in r...

You know, there is a lot of potential added game time with Quality and Per-Item productivity upgrades.
In the end, it may be the difference between becoming bored with your map and still having plenty to do.

Re: Filter Groups (for cargo wagons)
Hmm not sure adding the ability to create filter groups would mess with item properties or recipes. I was talking about filters as in the cargo wagon and filter inserter. But, in the case of filter inserters, I know there are only a certain number of filter slots for balance, so it would really only...

Just the ability to create filter groups for example "Fuel" which would match coal, wood, solid fuel, etc..

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
I love quality but on the fence about trigger techs, as I stated in previous posts. But I want the devs to know this: I love this game so much better than other games that I will likely gift copies of the expo to my friends. I just wanted to say that even if some of these discussions might be critic...

Re: Quality Poll
Neither. The names will lock you into corner. When a mod wants to make a new quality level then it will be something better than "legendary", "perfect", etc.. They have to try to find a word that somehow means "better than legendary", "better than perfect", an...

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
How about just "Quality Level X" QL0,QL1, etc.. Would allow for less searching of names in the case where modders try to make many more quality levels, and avoid trying to find a scheme that works in all languages. Plus, imagine coming up with a word that means "the best possible ever...

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
I don't like the trigger techs, but I find them acceptable. One of my favorite aspects of Factorio is the fact that you are given lots of cool tools and the freedom to do whatever you want with them. The game doesn't try to control your playstyle by restricting you from doing things that might not m...

Just plop down some pumpjacks, power them up, and let them fill up their output pipe. You would have done it anyway.

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
At any rate, here is how I envision this would likely play out for the average player. At some point during normal gameplay the player unlocks quality and then is faced with the question of what to try to improve. I think a mod pointed out that it would be cheaper to do intermediate items rather tha...

That's not really what I asked, though. I asked why the thought that some people are confused by the differences of the two systems. Just the sense that I got from skimming through the posts. I don't want to go dig up the specific posts. Perhaps I misread them anyway. I'm just excited about the add...

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
I have been looking forward to more complexity, especially this kind. It means the best possible blueprints will be tricky to discover, while at the same time being optional. I don't want to spend the whole game worrying about which combination is faster. But when I get to the point where I am makin...
