Because spilling thousands of items on the floor is messy, but especially, bad for performance !

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
Don't get me wrong - I think solid fuel in the recipe is a nice idea, but it should've replaced red circuits, not add ontop of them. There would be not much of a point in blue science then... Nearly half (if not more) of the game's content is wrapped up in green science! Fluids, trains, combinators...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
So, during playtesting no issues were observed with much harder progressing into blue science? I haven't tried the mod that changes the recipes for 0.16, but is 1 solid fuel and 0.5 advanced circuits really that "much harder" than 1 electric mining drill? It is - it requires even more set...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
regarding spawner pollution hoarding, i guess that means that the blinking away of the pollution on the map indicating the presence of a new base will be minimized Why would that be ? have i've built a sizeable pollution cloud and the biters expand into the pollution zone and i check the map, but d...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
What do they mean by fluid algorithm? Is it the multi-threading? Probably. There were two big parts to the fluid optimizations. The first one was a complete change in algorithm, to create different fluid dynamics. The other one was an aside like "oh yeah we can dump this on another CPU now&quo...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
by fluid algorithm do they mean the multi-threading of fluids? So in 0.17 we won't be able to see the full effect of the fluid improvements yet? So the fluid mixing prevention and fluid update optimisations are in 0.17, but the new algorithm was put aside for further research. I'm pretty sure that ...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
Gotta say, I'm not happy about the belt nerf at all. I know, I know, "it's not a belt nerf, it's a biter fix." Semantics. Fact is, there are fun designs for belt-based defenses on factorioprints that won't be viable anymore come 0.17. Just like when you floated the idea of removing bots f...

Re: Player Power Curve vs Biter Power Curve imbalanced
Sorry, but I felt that we *were* getting offtopic... Well yeah, sure, I can always use mods, that doesn't mean that I don't want to help brainstorming what would be the "best" vanilla Death world experience... The options to do so manually are there for those who need it, I think the defau...

Re: Nuclear power OP
It's a feature of the game I enjoy a lot, but sadly in 0.16 had to use RSO because resources were still too plentiful at their lowest setting.
As you can imagine, i'm very happy about what 0.17 will bring !

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
The pollution absorption by land is far less effective than from nests so a LOT more land will have to be covered to clean up the red cloud. Depends, trees are pretty good at absorbing pollution (and the absorbing surfaces on average rises as the square of the radius). It would be funny if an islan...

Re: Player Power Curve vs Biter Power Curve imbalanced
TBH, with default settings, I struggle surviving the biters at least early game. Not everybody is good at fighting. As such that level of serious pressure ONLY exists for early game factorio and is gone the moment you research fire/lasers. However, I know exactly how frustrated I got on my first tw...

Re: Player Power Curve vs Biter Power Curve imbalanced
Natural Evolution Enemies and Rampant mod have more then 150.000 downloads combined. This shows that there is demand for Biter focused gameplay. Bob´s mods average about 3-400k, logistics has 500k. Angel´s smelting/refining/petrochem ~300k. Should we make that mandatory for vanilla? Thats all the v...

Re: Planned feature, give feedback: Pollution multipliers
This looks like a good thread to post this in : I just noticed that one of my assumptions was wrong : I though that a more inefficient boiler would pollute more. Which is NOT the case ! (At least not directly - you still get the pollution from producing that fuel...) For instance the vanilla boiler ...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
Only effective method is to jump in the middle? Are we playing the same game? Turret creep, nukes, kiting an ever decreasing circle focusing on spawners, slowly advancing in a tank using explosive rounds supported by bots and personal lasers, poison capsules....that’s five ways off the top of my he...

factorio_2018-11-17_16-25-43.png Argh! My eyes! What monster places pavement under ores? And how is this even possible?! EDIT2 : Because there's so much ore on the map, you're forced to place pavement/ buildings on top of it. Redmew has created their own ore generator : https://cdn.discordapp.com/a...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
Is there going to be ore mixing in generation in the future? such as they "overlap" with a noise filter of which ore gets the tile. Otherwise tiles that are mixed/dirty and produce multiple ore types like when a miner covers different patches. I feel that the current system of them only t...

Re: I Miss Alien Artifacts!
I'm specifically talking about players that aren't newbies anymore though. And you say "over the years" - but AFAIK the map generation has changed (sometimes dramatically) over the versions, with some of the earlier versions where you could have the map almost completely covered by spawner...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
The one question I have, "Are biters still so stupid that they attack piles of rocks?" Aren't the biters only attacking rocks (and power poles  ) if they feel that they can't move anymore ? The second thing I like about the biters is that they are not going to be at the effect of be...
