Re: Optimized Steam Engine Setup
Its not a new design, but a rather neat one, very compact. I always like to see it as inspiration on the ancient boilers, where it was a common way of coal feeding over multiple boilers. The bottom inserters have to be electric to be able to keep up though. By using more electric ones you can fill o...

That is a little tweak having a great effect of interlocking using the strength of repetition. I like it alot.

Re: Friday Facts #351 - Beacon re-redesign & Simplified fluid mixing
You can really see a lot of the feedback in the new design. I think it fits the place much better. I am happy for you that the set of new designs is completing. While design demands are certainly fullfilled, it feels somewhat flat, almost like you can drive a tank over it no problem. (warning: insta...

Re: What are some good ways to make the first ~4 hours of a Factorio game fun?
A rocket can be launched within 2 hours. You don't need to use burner miners any longer than 5 minutes if you don't like that play style. I found rebuilding bootstrap smelters (invitable) the most annoying part of the start. While l never launched <20 hours and i dont like speedrunning myself, speed...

Re: Gigatrains: 720-car trains supplying a 10K science/min base
Compared to this thread no-one does large trains:p My biggest is a factory around 6-24 trains and 12 beacon setups. You will have to redesign basically everything to fit the right amount of assemblers around the trains; Instead of bundling all belts into a belt balancer you run a belts from each wag...

Re: Is there a way to run this on a controller?
Another happy Steam controller user. While steam can also configure ps controller the SC is the only controller with trackpads. I cant really imagine playing Factorio on a controller without those trackpads.. Quite sad they stopped production, as I havent found a viable alternative.

Alright, that will do.
Edit: ok, that gets in a semi-working state in 1.1. The glow appears on throwing the capsule, but disappears instantly when the capsule hits it's 'target'.

Re: Blueprint books vs Shared blueprints
Shared blueprints are saved per map only, Blueprints in you library are taken to other games. In multiplayer shared is used for sharing, like standardized layouts of rail/walls/smelters etc. In single player "shared bp's" can be used as a quick acces bar, with links to common used blueprin...

Re: Friday Facts #343 - Environmental particle effects
While it is an nice addition to have the sprites tintable, the colored particles don't make as big of a difference as i would exect by reading the article. I imagine concrete to break in flakes at on explosion, where the bottom right sand would leave more of a dust ball explosion. So the shape of a ...

Yes yes yes!And our old robot sounds have come back as additions.

Re: Friday Facts #339 - Beacon HR + Redesign process
Wrong game, too futuristic like Factorio has never been (perhaps modded). It may fit the unseen assembler, but not the rest of the factory that we know. The round shape make it excel placed alone or at corners, but not in row. I prefer the spinning radar thingy on top of the old beacon, fitting the ...

Re: Question: what settings are used to start game to make mega base?
So either I got an exceptionally bad map seed (default settings, just disabled cliffs) or this tactics was maybe fine in some older versions of Factorio, which did not have so many biters and had bigger ore patches. Or maybe I just don't understand how you do it? We do seem to play a different game...

Re: Question: what settings are used to start game to make mega base?
While there are different strategies most megabases only start after the first rocket is launched, and most science is done. Having a well fed mall is vital here. A known tactic is to drive out, making the longest track you have ever made, until you find ore patches that you have never seen before. ...

Re: Version 0.18.2
Gonna miss the AM3 bass line. The new inserter/assembler combination sound seem to have way less depth in general. The machines aren't making music anymore: its not a mix of high and lows anymore, shifted all to mid (trying to describe my feelings here, avoiding the word 'noise'). And those belts......

Re: Version 0.18.0
Can I easily switch back and forth between versions through steam? I want to check out some of the changes, but also what to continue with a modded save. Make sure to backup your blueprint library (blueprint-storage.dat in the game files) if you plan to switch back to a older version. Not sure if s...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
I'll buy (preferably a collectors version) on GOG / factorio.com once the storm of updates is over. Steam is just the most convenient way of handling the ever updating game. Only reason to keep Steam after that is Portal 3:p (nope). Though i'm sorry for the work, i honestly think the right choice is...
