Re: Some thoughts on 0.16 -> 0.17

Having "mucked" around with 0.17 in a good way, here are my comments. Starting a new game is not that big of an issue. Likewise converting a pre-rocket launch is quite a bit harder, especially if it was developed with using a .16 science packs. Here is where I found an issue, and that is w...

Formating Error Displaying

Not really sure if this has been reported or not, but I noticed when Factorio informs the user that research is complected, the level of the research is not displayed correctly. When I researched Mining Productivity 18, upon conclusion, "Mining productivity 1 finished, press T." was displa...

Re: Adjust an items recipe in an existing game

I am playing around with that right now. I am currently working on a new mod which does something very similar with accumulators, solar panels and big electric poles. Although it is probably not possible to change the recipe once the game is fully loaded, but it is possible to write a mod in such a ...

Re: Some questions from a beginner

Then you will need to make the graphics / animations and include that as part of your deliverable. Normally graphics will go in a folder called graphics, with separate folders for each entity. The icon graphics go into their own folder as do the technology graphics. Although deepcopy is great, anoth...

Re: Version 0.17.5

It may be that there is an unexpected consequence with this patch. I am experiencing a large number of issues loading games saved in 16.xx with this patch both with mods and without mods. In all cases, I can load up the saved game in version 16.51, and save it in 16.51. The symptoms are an error mes...

Re: Version 0.17.5

I like the mining change. On a base which can crank out 5k+ research, opening the research window to click yet another level of mining becomes very tedious. Once the player hits infinite mining research, under .17, it will cost 1000 less then under .16 for 5 levels. This will make a difference at th...

Mod Portal Thumbnail

FF 283 finally specifies the technical specification for the thumbnail.png file to be included as part of distribution package to be 144x144 bits in size. Recommend changing the text on the mod upload page to include the expected size of the thumbnail.png file to something like: Note: From 0.17 onwa...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch

I have played around with the "Dissipation rate" in several of the games that I played. Especially those where I think the pollution generated was to high. I do like the changes to biters and their spawners. The limit of how much pollution can be stored by a spawner makes a lot of sense to...

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

Thanks for the recommendation BlueTemplar!

I've downloaded the Alien Biomes both base and high resolution graphics, and taken a quick look at the code. Those mods contain a lot of code and graphics that I can learn from. I'll take some time to study that code.

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

Thank you for your response. You are probably correct in your assessment that it may be an internet connection issue. The internet connection is DSL with effective download of about 4.5m and effective upload of 300k, which is currently the best available where I live. I have already tried to upload ...

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

In summery JPG is 24 bit image which uses compression with an image detail reduction upon reproduction, GIF is 8 bit that offers some of the capability that is needed from PNG files but is not lossey as JPG is, while PNG is 24 bit with some compression does not loose quality and transparency, althou...

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

Thanks for the reply. I've done some work with JPG files, where I needed to get into the internal structure of JPG files and how they did their compression. They are great for compressing a base image to a fraction of it's size, but bill payer for the compression the loss of transparency / animation...

Re: [Art Request] Color mask for fluid wagon

I have a similar problem, adding color to fluid wagons. What I had to do in the end was tint the normal resolution graphics and use the normal resolution graphics for both normal and high resolution graphics. My issue was when I included the high resolution graphics for fluid wagons, it increased th...

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

I have an interim solution implemented skipping version 3 of the mod and going directly to version 4. It appears that the issue was the size of the final zip file. Once I stripped out the high resolution graphic entity files, modified the code to use normal resolution files, I was able to upload the...

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

Apparently there is a cap to the file size uploaded to this forum. I was able to get the content up on Github at https://github.com/Hiladdar/Factorio-Trains . The readme.txt on github explains how to resemble the zipped mod on a PC since Github has a 25mb limit to the size of an individual file to u...

Re: Issue uploading new release of a mod

Hi First off thanks for the fast response especially on a weekend. I tried to upload as an attachment and it web site ...

Issue uploading new release of a mod

Hi, I made several attempts to upload a new release to one of my mods of several computers. In all cases, after the file is uploaded, it the display is "Status (x) Invalid". I have tested this mod patch on several computers and it works fine. This is the third release of this mod. Given th...

First and foremost, I like the changes, and am excited about them. I especially like the visuals in the world generation. The the thing that impresses me the most, is the announced dedicated in house beta testing. This is a great indicator that the developers have a passion for what their jobs resul...

Re: Friday Facts #275 - 0.17 Science changes

One of the things I noticed on my play through was the amount of lube needed, especially in the production of electric engines used to make flying robot frames. Getting to the first launch of the rocket this is not an issue, but in the construction of the mega base it is, particularity when high tec...
