Re: Let's see your clever builds

How do you keep the main engines turned off? With the pumps? If I understand correctly, whenever you have enough energy in your accumulators, the burner inserter doesn't get fuel so the pumps don't let any water go through. Is that correct? I know for a fact that each 10 engines require 13 or 14 bo...

Re: Goddamnit!

Directions on how to explode your map with iron: 1. fill inventory with iron. 2. shift click fast underground belt in crafting. 3. fill inventory with any item. 4. shift cancel crafting of fast underground belt. Various other methods exist, but most have been patched. Also, just about any other craf...

Re: Mass production with ZERO belts and robots :)

I love these designs, and these ideas, but it reminds me of somethings... oh yeah, a suggestion I had: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7856 Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a building that you could plop down instead of a train? I suppose trains work, but having a set si...

Re: Let's see your clever builds

You beat me to showing a test stop in action. The disadvantage to this build is the 48 inserters it takes to make it work. I think I figured out the fastest way to do a train stop in vanilla.

Re: Let's see your clever builds

In an attempt to bring things back on topic: http://i.imgur.com/ymW9g0c.jpg I built a testing rig to see if there was a faster way to load/unload a train. There is. Two rows of long-handed inserters are a little bit faster than fast inserters. Side advantage: double buffer storage from the 2 rows of...

Re: Just a lake

This is the secret to getting really big lakes: very low terrain segmentation, very large water. Add a little bit of trial and error (easier to do in the map editor) and there you go.

Re: Let's see your clever builds

Also of note, if you don't want to use underground belts, you can use boilers to filter out fuel from a mixed line. No power needed.

I'd like to introduce a tileable blue science build using only burner inserters. This is for you, Gepwin :)

Re: Undo the finish???

You have to un-hide the folder before you can find it. You can do this with the terminal, which accesses the raw UNIX interface behind OSX. If you don't know how to get the terminal open, search for "terminal" in spotlight. TO un-hide hidden folders, enter this into the terminal: defaults ...

Re: Need help with rail signals

An important thing to remember with train signals is that they also work as a one-way designator. Train can only path in the direction that the arrows show. If you have engine on both sides, you'll need to put a signal on the opposite side of the tracks. If you place it right, it will highlight the ...

Re: Challenge ideas?

That would be Zisteau. :) I've played around with map generation, and I am currently trying a map with max width of 50. A challenge that I found, but I'm not brave enough to try, is setting Terrain Segmentation to Very High. Tiny lakes everywhere will make planning a factory layout nearly impossible...

Re: Warehouse

I read all the threads linked, and the closest thing to what I had in mind was a comment by BurnHard in the first link. I'm not really interested in direct belt-to-chest systems. Thanks for the input, glad to know something I thought was a good idea was at least casually mentioned in the past. Maybe...

I can't find the original thread, but here seems like a good place for it http://i.imgur.com/oepsCRv.jpg Bootstrap adaptive power supply, it activates before you have a power failure. This is because of the way accumulators work when they are connected to multiple power networks. It maintains 0 char...

Larger chests / Warehouse (w/ reserved slots)

A warehouse would be a 2x2 building with inventory slots you can set like a cargo train. Advances in the tech tree would unlock a 'smart warehouse' for use in red/green logistics, and 'logistic warehouse' -- equivalent to the logistics storage chest that bots can move items in and out of. Yes, curre...
