Re: Re-enabling achievments guide [16.25]

TBH I think it is pretty stupid to disable achievements for using commands in single player, especially trivial commands like playing with day time only settings and the like, when most achievements stay on even if you set the game to Peaceful from the beginning. Based on what I see I bet that disab...

Re: Resource-aware Power Strategy

Excellent input guys. Keep it coming. I'll update the initial post with the evolving consensus as soon as I have a few free minutes. Even more obvious solution is not to make a map with cliffs on. Whose idea were they, anyway? I have a hunch there. The devs might have come up with Cliffs with the in...

Resource-aware Power Strategy

There are tons of tutorials and discussions on "how to do" the various types of power, but I have not seen anything on what is the best overall Power Strategy - especially from the perspective of using resources efficiently . I figured I'd collect what I know in one place, post a few quest...

Re: Controlling robot bevavior

Part of the problem solved by laying out an initial logistic network and setting a number of construction bots to run fee instead of launching from my inventory. It should have been obvious, but I had to connect the information from multiple tutorials. There isn't a truly good tutorial that teaches ...

Re: Controlling robot bevavior

I have been watching those tutorials. Some questions remain: - I don't have a portable reactor yet,so I can only carry a few construction robots with me. Seems that I can plop a regular roboport plus a passive chest with construction materials and the construction robots will use those (plus have lo...

I was expecting no output on the right lane under the conditions shown in the screenshot.

Posila figured out the cause, very obvious once you know what to look for.

Re: 0.16 Strategy: Bus Belt Shift instead of Belt Balancing

I suspect beginners and those that build factories on both sides of the bus might find it valuable. Factories on both sides of the bus are an unholy mess already. There isn't much room for extra thicc splitting. Building on the "main" side of the bus was indeed my initial strategy, for ex...

Re: 0.16 Strategy: Bus Belt Shift instead of Belt Balancing

I mean that's a good 1 size fits all solution but I prefer to just split off the 4 belts in order, slap a balancer down and then start over. Less splitter clusterfuck. It isn't a solution for "everyone". Different people, different strokes. It is just another option for those who have dif...

Re: 0.16 Strategy: Bus Belt Shift instead of Belt Balancing

I see a problem when your belt is starved. So it will only supply the first outputline and empty the complete bus behind it. With a balanced splitter you will always have items everywhere. Yes, that was the intent. The idea is that with multiple belts, you will see the starved line early, scale the...

Re: [0.16.36] Is this a splitter bug or intended?

If I understand it corretly, the right most (the bottom most) splitter doesn't behave as you'd expect. On its input, it seems to have 2 compressed copper belts, on so it will push as much copper as possible to the priority output and rest will go to the other output. So if both inputs are saturated...

0.16 Strategy: Bus Belt Shift instead of Belt Balancing

This strategy seemed obvious to me when I learned about the new 0.16 Belt Splitters. I have been using it and I love it. I am sure that others must be using it too, but I have not seen it mentioned anywhere. So I figured it is time to share a creation for the first time. :D The basic concept is to a...

[0.16.36] Is this a splitter bug or intended?

Splitters don't always seem to behave as I'd expect. Usually do, but please look at the screenshots. - The splitters are set to Left Output Priority. - When I use up to 4 splitters in this cascade configuration, product seems to consistently shift left as much as it can. - When I use more than 4 (6 ...

Re: How to use/manage blueprints properly??

I agree with OP, the mechanics of using blueprints are messy. I have been thinking of solutions for a while. A possible fix would be: - When you hit Q on a blueprint or book, it should just close it and return it to where you grabbed it from. NOT make extra copies. If you grabbed it from a book, the...

Re: Private train section

You can do both A single track along the bus that just goes back and forth. Plus a small train yard at the mall for construction trains and a passenger train. Outpost supply/ammunition trains can also use it. My biggest concern was to keep all the normal ore traffic out of the mall, so that I would...

Private train section

Tired of running back and forth I want to setup train tracks along my bus. I can think of two ways of doing it: - I could do so by isolating that line and making it a loop, with stops at various assembly lines. Essentially a local passenger train. Would work, but not great. - Or I can connect the bu...

Controlling robot bevavior

I am a planner. I laid out my base extensively with blueprints before I got construction robots. An attempt to have a place for everything and everything in its place. Most of it are things I'm not ready to build yet. Some of it is "draft" as I'm not happy with what I have but I wanted it ...

Re: Any performance reason for blue belt to be at 40/s?

I wondered about the blue speed too. Then when I was reading about furnaces I had an "aha" moment. I hope my memory is correct, but here it goes... Using a good layout you can upgrade your smelters and on the same footprint by replacing your belts, furnaces (and probably inserters, I can't...

UPDATE:. Problem solved and post-mortem. I think that what happened was due to a series of events: - Since this is my first run through I am not progressing at the normal pace.
