Someone proposed "circuit boxes" few weeks ago. It was something like a chest for combinators. +1 for miniaturization.

I understand the need for faster transportation and I can even imagine a huge central teleport junction (this needs signs to work), but it it doesn't seem very Factorio-like. Perhaps if it is implemented differently, such as bot carrying you between pads, hyperloop-like underground tunnels or person...

Power independent coal mining outpost

My factory currently only knows two states and these are Brownout and Blackout. In neither of them it is able to mine enough coal feed my boilers at full demand, so I had to make an independent mining outpost. But I don't really like solar panels. Burner for the win.

The slow speed is not the main point, I just picked it to prevent the electric trains from replacing burner ones entirely.
The main point is their compact size.

I see a problem with projection. The cliffs are fake. If a pipe (or a belt) is running in the east-west direction and climbs up a cliff, then then the pipe tile on top of a cliff would have to be a little closer to the top of a screen, than the tile on the bottom.

HSV sounds good to me.
Another option would be the system that is used in GIMP, where hue is on the slider and brightness and saturation are in a square.

I don't think reactors should be unstable at all. No machines in Factorio can break down, if they did, then at some point all progress would stop because you would spend all the time fixing them.
