Re: So how's your OCD doing?

Why not build artillery turrets instead? I assume you have your logistics network extended to the walls already for repairs. Aritllery shells are not used in huge quantities so bots will work fine delivering them, even over large distances.

Re: Portable steam engine

Given the 5x5 and 7x7 grids of earlier power armors, changing the panels from 1x1 is not recommended. A higher capacity panel could be useful but it'd have to be a better deal then fusion. 750kw/16 tiles = 46.88kw per tile with no drawback. Solar, to match, would need to do at least 75kw per tile (...

Portable steam engine

TL;DR Power you modular armor the steampunk way What ? A steam engine for use in modular armor. Just add fuel and you get plenty of power for all your gadgets Why ? It is barely possible to use many of the modules for modular armor before geting the late game portable fusion reactor. Even when fill...

But as other people have said, it is not worth it. Simplicity >> advanced features

Re: Friday Facts #266 - Cleanup of mechanics

I would like to clarify some things: Stone furnace versus steel furnace coal efficiency ratio is still the same (steel furnace uses half the coal per product compared to stone furnace), this is easily controlled by the actual energy consumption of the furnaces. The same goes when you compare electr...

Re: Minimal on siite sulfuric for uranium mine?

I usually make a train with one cargo wagon and one fluid wagon that stops for like 30s at the uranium mine and the main base.

And as you say one tank is enough at the mine.

Re: Beaconed green circuit ratios/math

I never use any other ratios than 1:1. Late game I often use 3:3 with 15 beecons to make one blue belt of gc. Early game I use one asembler1 and one asembler2, for perfect ratio. This is cost efficient and is simple to upgrade the gc assembler to a asembler2 with two prod1 modules. This is also very...

You also need iron to make acid.

But I have used the setup you describe kick start u235 production to get enough for korvarex.
One chest of iron is enough to get like 150 u235.

Re: A lot of great minds play Factorio.

As far as I know H2 is the best currently available method of storing large amounts of energy. I recentlly read a story of a guy that whent "off grid" by using solar panels, batteries and hydrogen. Batteries to store energy for the night, and hydrogen to store energy from summer to winter....

Re: A lot of great minds play Factorio.

One problem with solar and wind is that it is not always sunny and/or windy. Peek energy consumption (at least here in northern Europe where i live) tends to occur when there is a stable high pressure during winter. This causes low temperature combined with low winds, and as it is during the wither ...

Re: A lot of great minds play Factorio.

If we were serous about limiting climate change we would promote power generation that could replace more then half of fossil fule consumption and do it in the cheapest most effective way. (That does mean that focusing on solar and wind is not the solution) it is not cost effective and can never ac...

Re: A lot of great minds play Factorio.

Wishing for human nature to be different is futile, it is not gonna change. Trying to prevent climate change if pointless if we base it on religious views on what is good and what is bad. Then we ignore the bad aspects of what is "good". If we were serous about limiting climate change we w...

Re: A lot of great minds play Factorio.

There are lots of different ways to store energy. The main things to compare are efficiency, and cost per capacity. Batteries have very good efficiency >95% , meaning that you can get back most of the energy that you put in. However the cost of batteries is high per amount of energy. Hydrogen fuel c...

I was hoping for a key to fill in the ghosts, so that you could hold it and drag over lots of different ghosts to fill in all. Key to fill in ghost

I would like to press a key to fill in a ghost item under the cursor with a item from player inventory. Subject to the normal placement range etc.

This would make blueprints more useful in the early game (pre bots), especially if a new copy/paste feature where to be added.

Re: Self reseting memory cell

I think that the problem you have is that the values do not change untill one tick layer then you think. So the combinator that you think outputs -41 for only one tick actually sends this output for three ticks.

I find it helpful to imagine that the signals travel only one step at a time.
