Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
Is there a reason you use accumulators rather than steam tanks? One steam tank at 500 degrees is something like 100+ accumulators if I am remembering correctly. I prefer to let the turbines run at full throttle. So the reactor stays cool and steam doesnt pile up. I also keep using solar, accumulato...

Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
I tend to not mess with smart reactors, to be honest. The first one, maybe, but by the time you get a bunch of reactors going, you're probably going to need most of the power all the time. I currently have 6 smart reactors running (2x1 and 2x2) and I dont even have kovarex running. The next plant w...

biters always seem to find a way through my defenses (DW marathon) You have found the answer. more defense >fire >dragon teeth >laser or gun turret as backup Also upgrade artillery and keep the area clear where trains operate. If the aliens attack at the same spot build a fortress around the rails ...

Re: I think assembling machines need some balance changes
What about something like a "random mode" ?
Crafting times and crafting speed would be randomized and you need to figure it out to get good ratios.

Re: Train station with same name question
You can deactivate station by logic condition.
You can for example connect several chests and read the content. Once the chests ar full enough you can activate the station.
You can also limit the amount of trains approaching a station.

Re: Anyone use barrels?
I'm not playing pacifist at all, but I really have zero idea on how to deal with a base like that unless I've got at least a tank / CSP tech. Not to mention how many big biters are already present in the game at this stage. Fortunately, the green modules help a lot. Kill it with fire. Build some fl...

Re: [1.1.5] slow stickers - player and spidertron
it can run out of power. I use two personal batteries mk2. It helped a lot during combat. One fusion reactor provides 750kW and 3 exosceletons already need 600kW. The Spidertron needs 3 exoskeletons because, at least for me, the spidertron is very slow. Fortunatly the batteries dont have a power ca...

Re: Game optimization and playability
I actually read all the opinions here and yes I get that the game is perfectly playable to the end but also it kills me when I start a big project and it stops to be playable at 6k spm with 8core cpu running at 22% total. I love this game so much that I would buy a threadripper pc if it that maked ...

Re: Use of active provider chests
That's what buffer chests are for. Buffer chests can request items and provide them at the same time. So they make perfect forward depots. If you use active providers for this, the mall will just produce endlessly. That's not what you want Well, of course you need to limit the produced amount with ...

Re: Use of active provider chests
As far as I understood requester chests are used if you want an item to be in a specific place. The extra function of active provider chests is that you want the items to be somewhere else. You cant really control where items end up when they are in a storage chest. When you take the used up uranium...

Use of active provider chests
Are active provider chests even used in their intended way?
I cant really think of a scenario, where you want to dump the items in a random storage chest.
Can anyone provide good examples?
I use passive provider chests.

I dont even reuse my own blueprints in another playthrough.
To me its not fun to build just another factory the same way.
Its part of the game to find different designs.

Re: To build or not to build (miners)
I confess I hate burner miners. (Sorry all you BM out there I don't mean to hurt your feelings!) But there it is. They have their pros and cons -they are cheap -they dont need electricity -they pollute like crazy -they need fuel -they need inserters to be refueled automatically -they cover a small ...

Re: Would it be possible to make it harder to take off armor?
You usually unequip the armor by accident.
The only edge case where you might want to switch armor later would be when you use different setups for armor like:
combat armor, a mix of everything
building armor with roboports
speed armor
personal laser defense armor for spidertron

Re: To build or not to build (miners)
It also strongly depends on your playstyle. You also need to unlock things to keep going. At the same time you need to build defense. The buffer storage is also important. Do you really need to have 10k belts waiting to be placed somewhere? It also matters from which direction you plan your factory....

Re: how to avoid inserters with partial hand contents when refueling trains
random suggestions: 1. make fuel stops for each size of trains 2. use only one size of trains (1 compared to 3 cargo waggons does not hurt the train perfomance a lot) 2a. increase the buffer storage and use larger trains, this reduces traffic 3. switch to trains that can only drive in one direction,...

Re: Size of logistic networks
It sounds to me like you need to set up a building train. Have one block designated to build everything. That block supplies the building train with all of the stuffs needed to build the other city blocks. The train then takes the stuff to the city block, with low item thresholds (IE - no more than...

Re: Anyone use barrels?
Has anyone found cases where barrels are a better choice than fluid train cars? I use them for uranium mining. filter for my waggons: 4 slots for sulfuric acid barrels 4 slots for empty barrels rest for uranium ore the ratio is off after researching several stages of mining productivity. I never bo...
