Using peer to peer the map needs to be EXACTLY the same, while it is doable with the mentioned ways, in this stage of multiplayer just sending the save is good enough.

You can fill, transport and empty crude barrels.
I even transport sulfur for distant battery processing.

But i guess if you still need them an easy solution would be to make a mod so you can fill different kind of barrels.
