Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)

Ok, problem. I am mining the whole ore patch with direct insertion optimized and boosted as far as I can, and it's still running at 60/60. Ryzen 1600X at stock speeds shouldn't be THAT much faster than your OCed Intel, so i'm afraid you'll have to underclock to do a valid test, or give me a bigger o...

Re: UPS wars: smelting challenge (design competition)

Just to be clear, you said we could move the void chests but didn't say we could add more, we're limited to the 360 void chests? He says he's doing some math in the background that needs to be redone if we change the number of chests. It would be a courtesy to not change the number, not saddle the ...

\Fair enough! I think I'll give you mine today already.

Another question: You say I can move the void chests, can I add more? Or, failing that, I suggest you prescribe a train length, just to keep things realistic My current 34-car trains might not fit that bill exactly :p

my machine (i5-4670k@4.2, 16GB 1600MHz ram), though depending on the entry count/closeness of the best, i may be testing with differnt cpu/ram setups to see there is always a best design or if it depends on how cpu/ram limited you are It might even make sense to undeclock your CPU for these tests. ...

Cool stuff! I'm absolutely going to give it a go. Just to be sure, we are judging here on continuous throughput. So you'll let the base run for a while and then take a 10m measurement of what production was?

Re: Main Bus Design

The main bus, in my opinion is a bit of a startup tool for people to escape the crazy first-base spaghetti setups, and useful only to get you thinking about the exact question you ask yourself now. Once that question is asked, the main bus kind of goes the way of the dodo, it becomes obsolete real f...

Re: i find this game become boring after 100 hour.

The game does reach a point where it's unfulfilling. The problem is not that there's not enough content (there's a good case to be made that there's too MUCH content), but that it never reaches a crescendo, a final, super-hard challenge that requires your best in planning and execution. Launching th...

Re: Volcanio.

This could be a fantastic scenario mod. Or even a piece of endgame, where you balance it so that it's quite impossible to survive on the new planet without shipments from the old. You'd need a constant stream of rockets to do cargo drops, justifying the need for a megabase that does multiple RPM. .....

Re: "entrepot" based factory; station designs?

Well, once you hit a certain width, the "loop" station has it's own chokepoints anyway, so you'll need to build a second one. Yeah, exactly, and the tests above suggest that the limit is about 1 train per 6 seconds, depending on train length of course, and assuming I don't have a trick to...

Re: high capacity unloading station

The reason to have separate waiting bays and unloading stations is to make sure the trains are unloaded one by one. In your 24-station unloading grid, you'll end up with 24 trains, all with a handfull of stuff, waiting to be unloaded. The trains that get to unload first at the earliest point on the ...

Re: Philosophy- Which is larger: a book or a universe?

When you pick a book up, it is larger than the universe. It holds all possibilities, all permutations of the combined imaginations of you and the author. When you put it down, those possible permutations have collapsed into just one, which will, as described by people posting above me, by definition...

Your robots pick you up and drag you kicking and screaming deeper and deeper into the void, following the first batch of robots. At least, now you know.

Re: "entrepot" based factory; station designs?

I think, if designed well, the intersections won't be that much of a problem. Not before you have maxed out the station for other reasons anyway, and are better off just building a second station to handle the same task. The reason for this, is the trains will be stopped for a while anyway for loadi...

Re: "entrepot" based factory; station designs?

Thanks for your comments! For me, the amount of trains and planning are what makes it attractive. I looked at LTN but I wanted to stay in (mostly) vanilla and tackle the challenge with the tools we have. I agree with that sentiment, I love myself a good challenge. However, I'm playing this multipla...

One way to find out!
You can make it as difficult for yourself as you want. It's not an "easy" game for sure, but a smart 14-year old should be able to play it. Now you get to find out how smart you are

Re: "entrepot" based factory; station designs?

Questions / ideas: - General critique on the separation / entrepot setup? I thought about this, but switched to LTN before this became a necessity. LTN basically makes this obsolete. A big downside of a setup like this is the large amount of trains it needs (bad for UPS) and the large amount of pla...
