Re: Friday Facts #351 - Beacon re-redesign & Simplified fluid mixing

I like the new beacon design and the thought about how it looks when zoomed out. For me it's more important that the entities and items don't look to "bussy" and is easy to recognize zoomed out that that they look great fully zoomed in. The non mixing fluids for inputs off assemblers/chemp...

Re: Friday Facts #348 - The final GUI update

Can we please get sub tabs for the logistics tab in the inventory? Having multiple personal logistics and auto trash tabs with different configurations would make switching between projects (base building. biter clearing, outposting) a huge qol improvement. I think it's OK to leave that to mods. Ch...

Wow Search in the inventory I am so happy :-) That will be great especially with big complex mods. I also will use the function to turn off logistic requests.

Re: Friday Facts #331 - 0.18.0 release & Train pathfinder changes

I'm quite concerned that the new fluid mechanics won't be making it into 1.0 (or even at all?). Currently, fluids are definitely the most under-developed part of the game. They're quite unwieldy, hard to read and plan about, hard to use, hard to debug, and just unpleasant overall. Transporting the ...

Re: Version 0.18.0

One nitpicky complaint is that the fountains of water that erupts when you cut down trees close to the water is a little bit to much. New trees and colors looks great. The moving trees and water is subtile you have to stare at it for a while to see it and I am rarely fully zoomed in. In streams with...

For the main menu
I think Mods could be hidden behind settings. (Don't know if it's better just an...)
I have only used the editor with the command line from a normal save, i have never made any scenario. So either I do it wrong or the menu should include opening a normal save with the editor.

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision

I haven't played either tutorial, really. I was dragged in by some friends and just told to build to rockets. That said, I did at one point try the pre-16 tutorial and found it pretty painful once I already knew the mechanics. I was looking forward to seeing the newer tutorial, so I think I'll have...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision

Not what I meant. By "it plays itself past a certain point" I meant what psychologists and game designers sometimes refer to as "the zone". Simply put, the point where the game clicks and you engage with it without friction, frustration, confusion, or boredom. Even more simply p...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision

I tok the time and watched the linked videos. The firs one "A Love Letter to GOTHIC's Open World Design" is quite interesting with an analysis on why the game is good the others is most rants with little substance. I am skeptic about Game design concept and strategies. A video game is such...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision

I have a potentially simple solution ... E: Upon further consideration, Welcome to the rabbit hole! One of the things that Kovarex and I agree on, is that the burner phase of the game is currently the right length. Any shorter and you may as well remove it, and any longer it would become annoying. ...

Avoid mixing fluid change

The message that you can't mix fluids when you try to change recipe is confusing for new players and in some cases can be difficult to solve for experienced. I suggest that input and output from machines don't connect to pipes with other fluids instead of making it impossible to set recipes. If the ...

Re: Friday Facts #324 - Sound design, Animated trees, Optimizations

I have a question about the statement that factorio is memory latency bound. The article says the heat flow entity had its update time reduced down to 0.17 ms/tick, which made it three times faster and is a nice example of how Factorio is memory latency bound, i.e. running three tasks in parallel w...

if it is ram latency bound what is the recomand ram to get for a new pc buld very hig end ram cost a arm a and a leg lot oand lot of mony over norml ram For the latency the timings should be important. So higher speed RAMs with bigger timings is maybe not that great. I think the latency is timing/s...

Shadows on the water ... I don't think I ever realized they are there, but now that the water is moving, they pop out. And they are neither subject to a blur, nor are they distorted by a noise function. Can't really paint them on top of the water like that. They can suppress highlights on the water...

Isn't particles usually some sort of shaders that only lives in the graphics card? And thus use no CPU power nor RAM.

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction

I don't care so much about the theme of the game for me it's more important that stuff is easy to discern and that Factorio is a happy place to be in. So i like the changes. I would like if you thought more about how stuff loks more zoomed out because i rarely zoom in so much.

The FPS can already be lower that the UPS.
The FPS can on the other hand not be higher than the UPS because the game has no changes to render in-between the UPS ticks.

Re: Version 0.17.75

I like the new tool tips although I am missing info on stack sizes. I also still miss info on what item that is on a belt I am hovering over. In vanilla that is not a big problem but in BA and Pyanodons it's hard to remember what type of plate is on what belt and they can look quite similar. There i...
