Re: Bots as dots on map overview
I made an experiment on something like this a long while ago: The demo looks stunning! Throw in a color differentiation to show bots with and without items, and you have a very intuitive way to understand a factory's logistics. I think it should be another layer on the map, similar to turret covera...

Re: Bots as dots on map overview
The mode is fine, but what about including this into the vanilla game. After all, isn't it the purpose of mods to try out new ideas, so that the best of them could be implemented in the vanilla game experience?

Re: Plant and grow trees
One other usage of planteble trees is an indestructible anti-biter fence. Since biters don't harm trees, you could surround a base or an important building with trees and prevent biter attacks. That feature would be balanced by the fact that trees need significant time to grow and can die out from p...

Re: Friday Facts #254 - No research queue for you
@kovarex About that research queue thingy - I would consider copying what YouTube does with the auto-play button. That is, remove the queue but put a switch that activates "auto-pick the next research" mode. In this mode the game waits 30 seconds or so for you to pick the next research, an...

Re: Blueprint books in a blueprint book
Factorio can copy its blueprints interface from any OS file manager and it would be a massive improvement.

Re: Friday Facts #246 - The GUI update (Part 3)
Please do not forget to add a separate tab for the starting zone settings since having a good starting zone is the primary reason to look at the map preview in my experience. If I am guarantied to have a good ore patches for my early game, I can play with any other settings and enjoy myself.

Re: Friday Facts #246 - The GUI update (Part 3)
May I suggest that the map width and height fields display the infinity sign "∞" when empty. That would be the accurate and self-explaining representation of the defaults.

Re: Auto place object when player over ghost placeholder
+1, adding something along those lines is absolutely critical for player engagement
Mechanics may differ, e.i. I would prefer auto-placing items when I have mouse over a blueprint with button pressed. You know, like a brush in "MS Paint"

Re: Make handgun slower the enemies
I have made deliberate attacks on biter nests armed with only a pistol, and successfully killed all biters and destroyed the spawner(s). I've only done that with small biters. It would probably be suicide with mediums. Quite right. Small biters - OK, medium biters - suicide. Same for an assault wea...

Re: Add some simple starting blueprints for beginers
Deadlock989, sorry to say that, but your post doesn't make a lot of sense. You seem to ignore the points I am trying to make, and your counterarguments, while present (thank you very much), are separate from the whole discussion. You speak from a position of a senior player who worked hard to get hi...

Re: Add some simple starting blueprints for beginers
We do need to teach new players how to use blueprints. We do not need to give them hints. Let the player figure out good builds on their own . That's what makes it fun. QGamer, that is true, you can teach a newbie to use blueprints. But how do you explain their value, especially when construction b...

Re: Add some simple starting blueprints for beginers
This being said, I think that instead of "giving" blueprints to the beginners, there should be a tutorial that takes them by the hand and explain how to create their own blueprints, and how to manage them via the blueprint library. You can explain blueprints in a tutorial, but it is meani...

Re: Add some simple starting blueprints for beginers

One way to prevent that is to make the starting blueprint imperfect. For example a smelting line blueprint can ...

Re: Trolleys a.k.a. tiny trains
If you are new to modding, I would recommend starting off with something less ambitious until you have a better feel for what is possible and what isn't. Factorio just doesn't provide the low-level engine access your ideas require. You can do unusual things with runtime on-tick scripting but if you...

Aka. The data stage is not documented. You can not look this up. Unless ofc you want to read all past changelogs, it's probably in there somewhere (i think the ability to create new rail-categories was removed in 15?). Thanks, eradicator! Re: Add some simple starting blueprints for beginers
For all the great Factorio players who don't like an idea of giving a blueprint for free - please add into your considerations that a) blueprint are unique to Factorio. A new player has now external reference for them b) blueprints are camouflaged. First time they are mentioned is in the bots descri...

Re: Add some simple starting blueprints for beginers
If we put anything like that into the game then that's one less thing that players will learn to do on their own and instead they'll just use the pre-built blueprints effectively removing a portion of the game for them to experience. Rseding91, thanks for input. I do want to clarify that I am talki...
