I just had a look and it seems that richness is actually used, as an offset on the evolution factor when deciding what to spawn.

Ok, I tried running the game on a debian box with two nvidia gpus, and couldn't reproduce it.

Could you maybe try with just one card in the machine? Seems like it's probably some bad handling of multiple gpus being present

Fixed, will be available in 0.16. If you want a workaround for now, the problem is that you have pumps targeting the same tank on the wagon, but beside different rail segments, because the pumps are 1 tile high and the rails are 2, and the tanker is pulling in straddling the two rails.
