Re: Cable Resistance / Non-looseless Power Transmission

After seeing ALTF4 52 - Fluidic Power Benchmarking , does this change anything? It doesn't seem so inperformant after all, although it won't be "zero overhead". The problem with Fluidic Power is, that there are some limitations that are impossible to overcome with the modding API, like not...

Re: How can I use C++ code in Lua?

Even if you could, I don't see how it would be useful to recycle old code. You need to use a lot of factorio specific features. What exactly are you trying to do/reuse?

Re: Will Pymods ever work with _____ again?

Angels-Py-Space-Krastoric-ScienceTweaked-Revolution when? That would be my personal dream. A nightmarish dream, but hey, a dream nevertheless. Ah, it's also a pipe-dream! :D it is true, i imagine it would be an insane amount of work, or it could be not all that much work at all, i am not a coder of ...

Re: Snapshot feature, similar to replay but taken every ~15min

Yes, this was one of the inspirations for this post. But it doesn't include saves, needs to be triggered manually and needs an external tool to create and view.
What I mean is an integrated, automatic feature. :)

Some kind of vote for suggestions?

When seeing the subforums Ideas and Requests For Mods Modding interface requests Ideas and Suggestions Balancing I can't help but feel that a vote feature would be useful. Like, so people can vote for what they think would be most useful. Sure, you could reply, but that arguably adds quite a bit noi...

Snapshot feature, similar to replay but taken every ~15min

After playing a world for a while, I like to go through old saves to see how my factory has grown. I thought it would be nice to have automatic snapshots, like every 15min. You could just save every 15 minutes manually but this could be improved like follows: Automated snapshot taking Taking a scree...

Also logs could help, always provide logs. ;)

Re: Licensing question about interactions between mods

As noted, I don't think there is a definitive answer, since it depends on the exact wording and your jurisdiction. Although I guess Wube could force modders to allow certain uses as terms of using the API, though I'm not sure about that either...

Re: Licensing question about interactions between mods

Well sure, you can tell people not to modify your things. The question is, how enforceable is it? Heavily depends on your jurisdiction.

"one operation per chest" is precisely the performance penalty that is severe enough to avoid.
Are you sure about that? Because I can't image it being that bad.

Re: Can such module function be realized?

A bit late to the party, but what about a "filterable chest"? Shouldn't affect normal chests in the slightest. Or simpler, a flag that enables filtering for an individual chest. Would at least limit the filter check to one operation per chest at minimum.

Re: Licensing question about interactions between mods

Sounds like something more suited for a lawyer, we can really only speculate here. Although I'm pretty sure that that is not a thing. You can't ask people not to modify your things, you can only ask them to not redistribute said modifications. In your example: Well, the mod would not be modified, on...

[1.1.57] Factorio crashes during cropping when using "genshin-impact-skin" mod (Linux)

I'm using Arch Linux, running the standalone factorio 1.1.57. I did a fresh download, default settings, no mods, and then installed this mod: genshin-impact skin As long as that mod is active, the game will crash during croppng images phase. Removing the mod removes the crash. pngcheck explains why ...

Re: [1.1.56] Windowed mode, clicking close will not prompt to save

AFAIK there is no logical difference between ALT-F4 and the close button on windows, it's all a close message for the application. Although I agree that it should prompt to save in any case. Other programs behave like that as well, and it's useful to not lose progress. There is no real drawback to a...

But i remember further that the game should then allow you to build a space station which gets supply from the planets surface. That space station would then be expandable and you would build your spaceship on that space station which is then going to bring you back home. Perhaps with new materials...

Re: Production statistics per surface

I'd probably make it opt-in. What? The surfaces? The statistics? That needs a bit more flesh :) Sorry, I meant like ickputzdirwech's option 1. Have a flag for the surface that modders can add that will add said surface into the statistics view. For best results, I would probably allow the flag to b...

Re: Performance: Multicore pathfinding for "low" GHz servers

Multi-threading comes up every once in a while, and the answer we got is that it's not worth the effort. Multithreading is hard, determinism must be kept and performance is not guaranteed.
