Re: Prefer to pull items from storage rather than suppliers
Heres how I do it: supply = Smart inserter placing items into an active provider, with a logistics condition to limit production to however many I want in storage. Storage = plain old storage chest, items will be brought here as they are produced requester = only items available are in storage so th...

Honestly, I probably would have argued against it but if I were to nitpick the splitter has a few details which aren't as easy to replicate... http://i.imgur.com/JNNFTUC.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/JEuGgpB.gif My first gut reaction when I see ideas like yours or mods like the russian logistics mod (l...

Funicular now theres a word you don't hear everyday
Thanks for that ssilk I'm always amazed at your linking prowess!
I knew similar ideas had been proposed in the past but I just feel like it can't be said enough until it actually makes its way into the game

Re: The Lane swapper
tldr: this idea brings nothing new to factorio and thus will probably never make it into the game. While you have taken time to lay your argument for a lane swapper down clearly game balance is not the reason that none of these belt or inserter ideas get accepted. The reason most of these things hav...

Splitting up roboport functions
tldr: Roboports should be split up into four structures: recharging stations, garage (for storage), Construction antennae for construction coverage, and Logistics antennae for logistics coverage. This would open possibilities for interesting designs. Roboport's functions Recharge bots Store unused b...

Re: Renaming active provider chests
I haven't yet come to an opinion on the subject but as far as identifying what the chest does at a glance it could be done with overlays. If you switch it to storage, chest becomes yellow, switch it to requester and it turns blue . just like the car changes to the player's color when you get in. Now...

Re: Long-handed inserters should not be fast-replaceable
When I started playing I would lay my stone furnaces without any space between them with the fuel running between two rows and I'd lay my yellow inserters and then try to place the red ones like we place electric poles by holding the button down ...was kinda disappointed they fast replaced the yello...

Re: Map generation changes
#2 is something I've been trying to achieve by playing around with RSO mod, but unfortunately there seems to be a limit to the size of resource patches. Edit: Jan. 16, 2015 I've been looking deeper into this ...The algorithm used in factorio's stock map generator is "perlin noise". One of ...

Do you play at same resolution as your desktop, I used to have something similar happen to me and I noticed it stopped when both of them are set to the same thing.

A smart pollution sensor
An item that measures pollution levels in the spot where it is placed like this mod https://forums.factorio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7661&view=unread#unread but make it part of the smart circuit. I could see using it to scale back production when pollution pass a certain level, or soun...

Re: Balancing of Capacities of Containers
Smaller chests and some kind of truck (flat bed with a crane) to move them without having to empty them and pick them up. Replace train wagons with flatbed cars that a crane (giant inserter) can load or unload with chests. I can keep running with this idea pack items into chest and make recipes that...

Re: production flow graph tool
I often find that I want the "opposite" view when planning a factory, as well - something that lets me see what's built out of (for example) batteries. That helps me plan what needs to end up near the battery production facility. I think I might use something like that more than the origi...

I use rocket defense only as a quick way ...

WHat about something like:
Wood chest: 5 slots/tile
iron chest: 10 slots/tile
steel chest(and variants): 15 slots/tile
possibly with more sizes of chests
car: 20 slots
train: 25 slots
Keep player inventory the same

Re: Build Action Repeater
Unless I've misunderstood ssilk, the idea is to have the factory build itself without player intervention. The mechanism for building the blueprint would be the same ie: Construction bots. The difference is that the factory places the blue print not the player.
