Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

The pipe puzzle was different than the belt puzzle. Now until later in the game the pipe puzzle has been simplified. I still have to try it but I am afraid that without the puzzle, only the work of running pipes will remain. Then again, until I have bots I rarely overbuild. I leave space for the add...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I am still against the changes, but I do intend to try 17.60 as soon as I finish my current base. I will miss the old oil recipes because they were different than all of the other tedium going on. Without having to worry about the outputs, I worry oil will feel like just another assembly machine. I ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I can't speak for anyone else but I would be ok (not necessarily happy, but ok) with the oil change if not for 3 things. I like the old oil, but I could understand focusing on what was needed immediately and getting the process right later on. (the new progression) 1. The way it was presented. It fe...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I didn't mean to come back to this thread, but a thought hit me as I was playing. I had just ripped out my starting smelting lines (upgraded to steel furnaces) to replace them with a beacon based electric smelting setup. I realized that if I didn't have the construction bots, I would have just left ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I am going to have to pull out of this discussion (I might still respond if quoted but other than that I am done). The way this change was presented, "We have decided to make a major change, and release it Monday," created a panic, and many bad feelings. I am also not convinced basic oil p...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I tweaked my numbers slightly as the decimals seemed to indicated that green (logistic) was 10 times harder when I was really trying to indicate that power (the first test) and red were trivial on all but the first playthrough.

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

From my relatively new perspective, I would have to disagree. End-game (I mean launching the rocket, not mega-basing) SHOULD be hard. It's the end of the game. It's the final hurdle and should be rewarded as such. Lowering the difficulty of mid-game blue-science is incentive to keep playing the gam...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Things are getting too nasty. I meant my comment that you could have released two years ago as a complement. Also as encouragement. I can't speak for anyone else, but I want mention what I was thinking prior to last weeks post about the new oil plan. I was honestly hoping that 0.17 would hit stable,...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Let me try this again. The Factorio I see is an ever increasing set of challenges (walls, tests, or whatever you want to call them, maybe science pack) one has to conquer. Power (which is in part a pipe challenge), Automation, Logistics, Military, Chemical, Production, Utility, Space (Rocket). Each ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Also, I agree with some of the comments on reddit, and likely in this very thread too, namely, that oil processing isn't even the issue with chemical science . The problem is the recipe being made out of a bunch of complex things Completely agree with this statement. Engines and red chips are part ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Like many other "pre-release' games, Factorio was already better than most officially released games out in the market a couple of years ago. Yes, there were issues and bugs, but due to the massive number of beta testers they weren't all that bad. It seems to me that 1.0 is actually a kind of d...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Thus, any proposal wishing to bring back multiple-output before Advanced Oil Processing should explain how the player would find an intuitive way to solve the lock-up without blowing up tanks / chests... I always considered my smelters, boilers, and trains to be my flare stack for basic oil process...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Better, but I still have one main question. Why isn't there a tutorial on oil? The multiple linked outputs is what appears to be the core of the problem to me. For oil refineries, it is bad for an output to get blocked because it prevents the production of the other outputs. Up until that point, the...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

Except that the whole point of cracking is that the ratios between what you get and what you need are off, so you're rewarded for setting up the cracking instead of just dumping the little excess in tanks, and "voiding" it by removing those tanks once in a while... Personally, my favorite...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

It's Basic Oil Processing that doesn't work properly. Never has, and even with the proposed change, never will. Taking away 2 products does not fix what you think it will fix. Yes, it eliminates the 2 commonly backed-up resources, and thus reduces some of the pipe-spaghetti. But what does that do t...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

I have never felt the need to rush advanced oil processing. Between several (2 Light Oil, 2 Heavy Oil) storage tanks, and a pumps to solid fuel producers triggered to turn on if the tanks are nearly full I never feel pressured. I am usually rushing something else (frequently nuclear as it is my pref...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

Again, PLEASE POSTPONE THIS Why are you making massive changes to the core (at least to me and many others core) structure of the game while still refusing to use one of the tools you created specifically for problems like this? WHERE IS THE OIL TUTORIAL(S)? Why are you risking shattering the commun...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

What about my proposal to leave both oil processing recipes alone, but introduce an earlier "primitive refining" oil -> gas for the chemical plant, similar how burner drills are the precursor to the "real" mining? As far as I saw you didn't address that. This way newbies get get...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

PLEASE POSTPONE THIS UPDATE. This is far too disruptive a change for this point in 0.17. Look at how many other changes are required to deal with it, and being supposedly so close to stable for this version, There is no time to properly address all of the other balance changes that will result (ther...
