Four setups here:
- Belters V6.38
- DaveMcW
- Dis V1
- Dis 8beacons

Tweaks I made on mine:
- moved the "fill smelter" to the last position
- tweaked the timings.

I did the benchmarks the same way as with steel. - made all saves from the same base save (empty.zip) - 50000 tics, 5 repeats - removed the roboports from ranzolger's and Niz' save - ran all saves until they had a stable output for at leas 10 minutes. yes. these are for real world late game use. also, I believe using only speed will not be as fast due to the increased use of iron, leading to more swings and more active % per steel bar.
But if you have a design, I'll be happy to test it.

here is the test with all three.
- 25000 ticks
- 10 runs
(dave's save had one weird much higher result, no clue how that happened. I did not do anything on the test computer while running the test)

So, I just did an UPS test: Not sure why your last one is still(about 4%) slower. Well... here is another one. Same timings as above, but it fits in a city block by rearranging the furnaces.
