High throughput smelter

I optimized my design published in this thread. There were issues with the throughput and the output belt compression. 5 to 4 smelter.jpg EDIT: There was a bug in the BP. Fixed it an updated the string below. 0eNrN3e1uHEeSqOF74W9pkR/xVcbB3sjCECixbRNLkQJJGTtnoHs/TWpH7pabZL4RfRb7ZzyS2BXMqojsyqeyMv958f...

Re: railroad best practices

You can unload one wagon on 4 fully compressed belts (see here ). I use a belt based smelter with 5 red belts in and 4 blue belts out. https://forums.factorio.com/download/file.php?id=45550 0eNq1Xe1yHDcOfJf9baUIEOBHXuUqlZLtTU51sqTalVJJpfLut7JX5z1llkQ37345juTmDIbdBEEQ+HP38f5l/3S4e3je/fjn7u7T48Nx9+M//...

Re: 1.5 Million Worker Robots

I like it. It looks organic. You can add a refueling stop in the middle of your "no-go areas". These robo ports have to be connected to the grid. Figure out what the max travel distance of your bots is (depends on bot speed -- I think...). Then add a refueling station at critical positions...

Re: Sushi wagon

Do you set item filters in the wagons? I think that's the only way to make it stable. I tried this concept with cars on belts. The overproduction kills you ultimately. With dedicated cargo space for each item, you greatly reduce your capacity but couldn't think of another way to get rid of overprodu...

One is for moving the blue print within the box (height x widths) and the other one is for the movement of the grid in the world.

Also, it is attractive to different mechanics in the game so that not all production steps look the same.

Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?

If you just want to launch a rocket into space, you don't need nuclear power at all. See the speed runners as a reference for a high power demand in this case. If you want to go beyond this point, I recommend to start nuclear just then by starting the kovarex process. After having all but space rese...

Re: Some ideas for the "One big expansion pack"

The devs are extremely good at learning from the community what is interesting. Most good ideas from mods have been integrated in the game already. I love playing with mods like the sea block mod pack, py, etc., but frankly, all this is "just" more of the same. Sure, mods can generate more...

But even if he did want to share a pipeline between multiple fluids, he describes himself as a Noob, so my advice is still "It's not worth the hassle".
It's for sure not worth the hassle.
Except if the contraption is about that hassle.

Re: Alt-F4 #22 - Blueprint Rant

Take a moment to remember how the world was before the Internet... Today, everything anyone ever thought or made is just two or three clicks away. This makes it increasingly difficult to make something genuine -- at least something you think is genuine. Copying is so much easier than creating. The t...

Re: Flush container contents w/ circuit network?

If you want to use a pipeline subsequently for different fluids, you want to flush them first. The only thing I can think of is using a line->pump->tank->pump->(same)line setup. The first pump is circuit controlled to flush before any other liquids enter the line. The second pump reinserts the flui...

Re: Disable/config fill limit for inserter?

Why would you want to buffer in the input ? Isn't the buffer of over 3 times the needed components for a craft enough for you ? I'm also trying to understand why someone would want an input buffer. I cannot think of a use case. Quite the opposite: When starting a production line it would take much ...

Re: Completely demolishing your factory because it doesn't seem to support everything you want.

You managed to get to the rocket with you first base? That's a great success. Don't mind how your "laboratory" looks like. A few bases later, you will have learnt how to make a base that is well dimensioned and that does about 1 science/second for all but space science, i.e. it brings you ...

Re: Friday Facts #358 - Alien decoratives & Polluted water

Has anyone ever managed to reduce the pollution cloud in a medium to large size base, say 100 or more SPM? I normally play peaceful or without aliens, so I usually don't care about pollution (or turn it off from the start). But every time I played with "normal" aliens, I tried to reduce po...

Re: Big Complaint about the Release Party

You're right. We all have to make our own decisions. There is a significant excess mortality rate (especially in countries without many restrictions). Of course, we all have to die anyway. But with covid19 shaving off more than 10 years on average for more than 500.000 people worldwide it seems a li...

Re: 1-to-N sorting of ores: Is there any hope?

You could go for a hybrid setup. If you already have some sophisticated 1-to-N then just let it co-exist with catalyst sorting. Put some circuit network override or filter splitter stuff in place that prefers 1-to-N sorting first and only if the output gets blocked because of some ores getting used...

Re: 1-to-N sorting of ores: Is there any hope?

Thanks for your feedback. So, there is no hope... Upgarding structures is a pain in the ass in factorio with very few exceptions, e.g. stone to steel furnace setups in vanilla, because throughput ratios rarely match well. Going from 1-to-N sorting to using catalysts means tearing everything down and...
