Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Yeah, definitely. Its just some things I want to get ready first. Like improving blueprints, making LHD ans RHD versions and I want an easier to use 3.x testbench which merges the manual and auto tester

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
When working on some rails for a book, this intersection came to life. It's pretty similar to "TRADITIONAL" intersection. It has less space between lines, but losses some throughput on set 2. After some tests, these are the numbers I got: Set 1: 62 (15min) Set 2: 67 (15min) Which version ...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
If the longest trains you are using are 2-4 you need a 6 car clearance.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Spent the last couple of days trying some new intersection designs that have a square space in the middle for a military outpost, is minimal in its approach, and has a throughput of more than 75/min. After testing I was able to get the following throughput numbers. 1 - 80 (15 min run) 2 - 85 (15 mi...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
A 2 lane RHD 6-car intersection of size 4x4 chunks. I was unable to find any smaller with the matching throughput. I think the smallest one that matches this one in throughput is about 5x5 chunks. Last time I tested it was ~87/min. It would be nice to get it verified by someone else and included in...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Interesting.
That gives me an idea of how I can implement support for that without breaking it.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Nice, how did you deal with the mix of LHD and RHD on the test bench?

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Hei! I made a Major update to the test bench. To make it easier to use. I would love some feedback on it. New auto tester - Runs 3 tests when started. - Checks automatic for RHD/LHD - Clears intersection after use - You can switch between auto and manual mode. Manual mode also got an upgrade. - Ever...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
I prefer testing with equal and left only (right only for LHD). But if you want to compare your intersections to the OP list you can use planned aswell.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Is this/OP post still up-to-date ? I spent a good time on this post and it seems there is some updates in comments but 31 pages later and I'm lost! :D Is there another post with the actual state of art of intersection in factorio ? (This post seems to be the ONE when you search in the forum) I'm lo...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Whats the best method/layout for a transtion between a 2 lane system and a 4 lane? What do you mean? As a three-way intersection, four-way? Or just how to transition on a straight line? Regardless, the highest throughput way is to: - Keep all intersections like normal 4 lane intersections on your m...

Re: Savefile for train testing
aaargha has been inactive for awhile. There is an updated savefile where you only can test 4 way throughput. I have an unofficial updated version which is a bit easier to understand, down in signatures.

Re: High throughput T junction in action
Cool cool, I like it.
It looks like a 10car version of a intersection I have, but with extra right turning lanes.
You can cut quite many lanes on both the 3 and 4 way intersection. Here is a pic where the lanes marked red can be cut and you keep the same throughput.

Here are the missing signals on the other intersection

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Hey Thanks again for taking a look. Does it make a difference if I have the once marked with an x to be regular or chain signal? If they are chain signals trains have to wait longer for their turn. It doesn't have a huge impact but a little. The red x ones you can remove. However the missing signal...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Hey I looked at the compact one. You miss a couple signals. That is why it performes poorly. You can also replace the chainsignales marked with x with normal signal and remove the ones marked with a red X. This cropped area is the most loaded and the bottleneck in your intersection. Having the U-tur...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Good that you got it to run!
I wrote wrong I meant opposing trains. Like opposing straight going trains shouldn't cross eachothers path or opposing left going trains. People really only do that mistake with left going trains.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]
Hey! I'll check it thoroughly when I am back home in q couple days. You can try my version of the testbench which is easier to use. The first thing I see that drastically cuts throughput is that the inner lane has to change lane twice to go either right or left. Secondly left turns for the innerlane...
