One can probably get some useful information out of the achievement statistics by comparing their evolution over time with the evolution over time...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

rebalancing ment as in consequnece most likely redesinging SF as beeing made most efficently by PG changing the number of PG output in any OP and then consequently buffing HO output, because you need lubricant too. Massive changes, wich don't adress the aspect of initial complexity. Might this be v...

A) See if new players go past AOP now (for example more rocket achievements scored by new players), How many go past BOP is irrelevant I have a problem with the achievement metric, as outlined below. Many players I know keep pointing to Steam achievements as the metric to show how hard oil is, and ...

But oldBOP with only SF to balance (considering mass storing, brute force solution), without use of circuit conditions is quite challenging. Re: "Safe mining" - protection from loss of items

So the "fix" is that ingredients are not supposed to be returned? Just tested it now on 0.17.60 on a centrifuge and an assembling machine, and the ingredients get lost if the building is picked-up mid-crafting. I don't expect to get the ingredients back, but at the very least I would like...

Re: Allow the "Q" picker over the "Crafting" items to select a ghost

You can actually set an item on the hotbar even if you don't have it (click an empty slot or middle-click to clear a filled one). Then, in the settings somewhere, is an option that I believe is off by default that will let you use those items from the hotbar to place ghosts even if you don't have one.

It's a shame, Light Oil and Heavy Oil had so many uses prior to Advanced Oil Processing.... and it's gone.

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I noticed basic oil processing changed before reading FF, and found it really convenient, wondering why I hadn't thought of it myself. Every time I set up oil, I've gotta make a big tank array for all that extra liquid, which is a distraction from the learning curve (for myself too, since I take lo...

Re: Version 0.17.60

Flamethrowers don't consume much oil though. There is far, far more oil in the tanks and pipes than the flamethrowers fire because the pipes will fill instantly. Unless you are playing on a Deathworld Marathon map that has the difficulty turned up even more beyond what Deathworld defaults to. My Fl...

Re: Version 0.17.60

I don't get why you guys are so aggressive. I didn't even express any stance (agree or oppose) on the new basic oil processing recipe. (In fact this week I was spending time on other stuff, don't even have time to look into this.) I am still neutral to this recipe, till this point. I was just propo...

Re: Version 0.17.60

Please feel free to tell me which part is a hyperbole. The bit where you and several others in this thread are acting like a small change you don't agree with suddenly means a complete change in game design direction for Wube? Well, putting aside the fact that we don't feel as though it is a small ...

Re: Version 0.17.60

Professional game designers know a tad more about game design that appeals to the mass market . That said, many of us were hoping we'd found one that wouldn't go down that road for once. Hyperbole much? Please feel free to tell me which part is a hyperbole. In the long run this change changes nothi...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Sure, having two outputs presents the "multiple outputs can block" early on, while not reducing the amount of things you need to do/worry about almost at all. Basic oil processing can still get stuck and that way it feels unsustainable, and the player just wants to rush advanced oil proce...

I'll just mention that the only real use for light oil was making efficient solid fuel previously. How much of it did you really spend for flamethrower?
So instead of adding ways to use everything better you remove?

Re: Version 0.17.60

If seen players struggling to get past oil. I read to many posts about this too. This needed to be dealt with and for most of as it didn't dumb down or simplify the game. A good post about why this change wasn't actually fixing the problem: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=73684...

complexity, tedium, pacing I literally refuted all three of those even being issues caused by the previous oil system in a very lengthy post. Further, many of us have been begging that if you (the devs) still felt as though a change was needed, to not take a sledgehammer to it. There was nothing wr...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Except no yeah As already mentioned in last week's thread, pickaxes/durability/hardness (and separate tanks I guess?) cannot be modded in again (without dirty hacks), while for this change it was so easy that there was a mod done in the hour ! And only cause I didn't see the release when it first h...
