Re: Friday Facts #191 - Gui improvements

I also never liked how the logistics section has to be there in the center of my screen whenever I need to craft something or grab something from my inventory. Good point, logistics is a second class function and should be demoted behind a tab. So when I first read this it sounded like a good idea,...

Re: Friday Facts #191 - Gui improvements

Came this close >< to getting name checked in FFF, instead only my thread got mentioned. :x Usually my approach is that Factorio must be the best game no matter what. Correct approach. I never understood why all my weapons and ammo need to be shown on my screen all the time, when 95% of my time is s...

For coal fired: Coal contains 8 MJ of energy, and boilers are 50% efficient, so every mining drill generates 2.1 MJ/second in the boilers. https://wiki.factorio.com/Power_production Real world for a steam turbine: Practical thermal efficiency of a steam turbine varies with turbine size, load conditi...

Re: A treatise on alien behavior

As a player, how does this directly impact my gameplay? You've described what seems like - simulate the behaivour of ants. But what's the overall goal? I see an oil patch, I use my flamethrower to cut a path, lay rails, build an oil outpost and maybe infrequently visit to burn any new hives that are...

Re: Change UI paradigm from Toolbelt to Toolbar

In fact, the toolbelt seems to be an inventory with a lot of exceptions to make it act more like a proper toolbar. It would be easier to just implement it as a toolbar (as the term toolbar is described here in this thread). Agreed. If you look at the change history the new features requested have m...

Re: Defended Wagon or Trains

What OP has described is a point defense system. Point-defence is the defence of a single object or a limited area, e.g. a ship, building or an airfield a train in this case. Whereas: Artillery is a class of large military weapons built to fire munitions far beyond the range and power of infantry's ...

Re: Enable loaders

I'm a late comer to the loader discussion, how did it get so political?! So many balancing ideas for a device that can transfer items in/out of boxes. Anyway, I don't like them because they are a slightly different way of doing inserter work which just adds some clutter to the game but doesn't do mu...

Now that looks pretty. When I first read about nuclear in FFF ages ago, this is the kind of layout I expected to be needed. Looks like 0.15.11 has finally made the change to heat pipes to force these sorts of designs.

Re: Loader Poll - Trying to get an idea of what the opinions are

I don't like loaders because their appearance doesn't suggest their function. Inserters, splitters and underground belts all look nice. A loader is just a rectangular prism. What it does, particularly when filtering, is anyone's guess (from the appearance). Unless the devs can deliver some artwork ...

You've got access to both heavy and light oil in there, maybe belt in some steel and make flamethrower ammo?

Re: 4-way intersection testing: Throughput and deadlocks

Note that the right hand turns only have a chain signal at the end of the path. This means a train must PASS this signal before the strait path will open. By placing a signal at the start of the right hand turn the train only needs to clear the turn to open the path again. Makes sense. It doesnt sa...
