If abstraction as proposed were viable, the result would be a gateway to parallel processing. Which isn't happening. Not for a long time.
So then we're left with abstraction resulting in a simplification...

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction
How does a cache uses "as much if not more processing"? You could argue it uses more ram. But how does it uses more processing? Why do you think we have cached shaders, cached web pages both on servers and clients? And how does a limit would use more processing than not limiting it? Regar...

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction
Because you can infer the result and you can cache this inferential information. And no, you don't have to account for literally everything in the game. You can limit the cases. I am repeating myself here, read the thread. Check out your terms: infer, cache, limit. These all take as much if not mor...

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction
I just can't think of a way where this helps UPC. To me this sort of ask will hurt UPC and require more processing power. Instead of processing hundreds of entities like inserters, items, belts, assemblers, you process one thing. How so? Are you telling the devs to make assemblers that only make Ad...

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction
I'm trying to derive some value out of this. While I don't think abstraction in-of-itself is a good idea, The thought of combining large parts of the factory has some appeal.

Yes. This is why I don't use the tank anymore to plow through larger nests.

I can get my conbots to make complain-y noises if I give them too much work to do or not have space in my inventory or am running too fast for them to recharge and park. I think it's kinda cute.

Maybe you should re-read your own original post. Are you really calling this not a change and not a simplification?StephenLynx wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 1:08 amOnly calculate what's coming in the area and how much it should come out.

Abstraction. I guess this popped up on the Programmer's word of the day calendar...
What's next? machine learning?
Do you really mean you want them to abstract the game more? No Thanks. There's a cadre of players that will rebel if the game is made any simpler.

Re: Show train visualization in both directions
The visualization is dependent on Signal placement, if you placed a Signal already on the Track the train can only in one way. If you place two Signals next to each other at the start of your station you can switch previews of the wagons by switching the side of the old signal. rails2.jpg This is n...

Re: Default Train waiting condition for the new temporary Station
I don't really get why people are choosing a wait condition when they complain about it... or feel the need to identify that you are adding a "temporary" stop on the train's schedule and to be able to define default conditions. After have been annoyed myself with missing my train because o...

I can see it now, they implement the hovercraft per this request. It's fast and hovers over water even! but the steering is worse than an automobile and takes longer to stop than a tank. Oh yeah, and if you get out over water you die.
